Jesper, congratulations on not only a great build but for also going Hungarian because I love alternative, lesser know options. Did you airbrush the camouflage or paint by brush?

@ Richard, the Aurora came out great and I do like to choice of colour on it as well.

@ Lap Man, nice start on the Vigilante. I hope you can get it finished by the end of the campaign.

Which reminds me, the campaign is ending on the 31st of this month so remember to have your completed build pics in the campaign gallery by then so I can issue ribbons. Thanks.

Hi All,

Some great builds progressing here.

Some progress on my PBY 5a Catalina, for some reason this kit had some major twists and warping on some of the plastic, but as it was the only kit I could get in this scale I have progressed somewhat. The insignia, serial, codes and fin flash are all painted using Maketar Masks, for this RAAF 8 Coms Flight subject.

plodding toward the finish line. I am determined to finish before the end of the month.

I had treated each of the tiny round windows prior to assembling with Microscale Micromask. pretty clever. While I was handling the assembled model I noticed little purple flakes here and there. the Micromasks peeled of at the slightest provocation.. all 56 of them flaked off while I was attaching detail parts. So I had to do them all over again, very carefully this time, so as not to get any on the sides of the plane. Now it's all safely stuck down with a coat of primer.

The vertical tail will not be glued on, it is nicely removable with two sturdy pins, and a reasonably snug fit, to facilitate moving and storage.

This one's done. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to finish; the paint crept under the canopy masks and I was unable to soak it off even after a week in Easy Off. Luckily I have a Falcon Clear Vax US Navy set which has T-28 canopies. Even though they're made to fit the Monogram kit, they fit this one with only a little tweaking.

and now it's in Alclad.

I'm a complete Alclad devotee now. By far the best looking NMF Ive ever managed.

now to build the landing gear and start the decals.

The Arado AR196 is done. I’d like to do a little bit more weathering but I’m not going to get any more time between now and the 31st. I really enjoyed this kit. I’d have to say that this is the best value for money kit I’ve bought, the only things I didn’t like about it was the pilots seat and the flat pack canopy.

yes, that Arado is Beautiful!

Ive gotten a good days decal work done on the C-124, and unmasked all the portholes. unfortunatley the Micromask didnt do a great job.

Some of Alcald paints require a gloss black base coat before spraying, but I have seen some people do that for all of the colour they do

Chrome
Polished Aluminium
Airframe Aluminium
Most of the prismatic range eg Sapphire deep blue to violet

I my memory serves me well all except the chrome can be on an acrylic base but chrome needs to be on an enamel base. paint is needed.

edit: here's the SITE with the full how to for Alclad paints

that's it, I followed the instructions, That was my method.
It was a learning experience.
here is my trial horse:

the forward part has the gloss black undercoat, the aft half I masked before applying the undercoat, there is plain gray primer under that part. very different! pretty neat. there is alot of exploring to be done here. Alcad also makes about five shades of aluminum, plus steel, bronze, titanium etc.

Even though I had dialed the air pressure back to 15 psi, I think it was still too high, there are areas where it dried kind of sandpaper-y. Also, a one oz. jar ain't alot of paint - I did two models at the same time, plus my test piece, and used up the whole jar. Looking carefully I can see areas that should have gotten more paint.

well it still looks great in my opinion, and its now my favorite model. of course there are a variety of flaws but prefer not to look for them.

More in the gallery.

Fantastic work everyone, I'm very impressed with the level of work everyone has put into the campaign. If this year had gone to plan I'd have a Dornier Skyservant in the gallery as well but some things just creep up on you.

The campaign ends tomorrow and then I'll get down to issuing ribbons. I also want to thank everyone for sticking with the campaign despite my absence, I hope everyone had fun.

Am finished as well, sorry for not posting sooner!

Revell Ec-135 in 1/72 scale. Built mostly OOB with scratchbuilt FLIR/Nitesun bits. Decals by Peddinghaus in West Midlands (UK) Police scheme.

And to any rotor fans reading, I know the skids are the wrong height and the FLIR/Nitesun should be under this bird, not on the side - I blame the photo I found which turned out to be a company demonstrator!

Thanks to Sean for running this campaign and well done to everyone for their builds.

Cheers,
Dermot

Thanks everyone. Ribbons have been issued, if I missed anyone them please send me a PM. I've been posting some stuff on Armorama recently so a PM is the best way to reach me.

Dermot, you just need to post the pictures in the campaign gallery here. Nice finish by the way, you're a master of hand painting yellow.

Hi All,

Some great builds completed in this campaign.

Sadly I have had to many famaily funerals to attend, so my PBY 5a Catalina can't be finished. Maybe next time I'll get something finished.
