Hi all!

Quoted Text

Sorry, Nige. You put your money on the wrong horse or should I say plane I have just finished my YAK-3 a couple of hours ago.

Damn Jesper, you beat us all!

Your Yak looks very good! It's a worthy first entry for this campaign... I hope there will be more like that! By the way, I think the first two pictures are the best...

Quoted Text

I can find the VVS campaign gallery and see the three pictures already uploaded there. However, I cannot choose this gallery for uploads of my YAK-3 pictures for this campaign.

It should work now. Thanks for the heads up...

Your "varnished coffin" is turning out very nice.
Looking at all those WIP pics, I started thinking about clear parts.
Have you test fitted them yet? And more, are you going to pose the cockpit to show off that detailed office space?
I've noticed that you have the style of leaving clear parts off until after painting.

Yes Eetu, I like to glue them in place at the very end of the build. But this is only possible if the fit is good. For this build I'm fortunate as the sliding part of the canopy wasn't fitted on the real aircraft. I will only have to place the windshield part and the two glazings aft of the cockpit. I will have to polish and dip them in Future though...

Since the first place is taken, I will try to finish second for the VVS Campaign then. Today I applied a worn out winter camouflage to my LaGG-3 and applied the decals. They look like ICM ones but worked a lot better!

One more day and I think I can be done... if I have no bad surprises!

Hi guys, thanks for the positive comments.

Well, in the future I will take my models to the street to photograph them. It looks better and is closer to the original.

Nige, I will try to take a close up for you of the cartoon.

Jean-Luc, great job on the winter camo on the LAGG-3. How did you get the layered white wash effect? It looks like you have given it several layers and removed some maskol in between?

Hi Jean-Luc,

it's looking very good.
I'm impressed by your patience with the ailerons.
I like the Tamiya tape trick very well.

Bravo!

My Hurricane has received its Red Stars.
The decals went on quite easily and are now settling down under the Microsol.

Should look quite nice after some washes and with everything blended together.

Mr. Watson has just finished his entry...

Now Mr. Jesper Holmes and Jean-Luc Watson can comfortably sit in their armchairs and watch with what you guys (and gals ) will come up with...

Hi Captain (I prefer this nick )

Prekrasno! Great Model as I expect it from you!

I have started my La-5, but I have no time now (I try to get a job and my 7 y.o. nephew is taking much of my nerves)

Thanks for the close up Jesper. A very funny caricature!

Very nice finished entry Jean-Luc!
The weathered white wash is particularly impressive.
I should be done this week sometime.
Im amazed how quick your builds progress. Even when I use acrylics(mostly),I still leave them for a day to cure before I klear coat. Then a day for the Klear to cure, a day for the decals to settle, another day for Klear to cure before I do the washes,,you get the picture
Having said all that,Im still finding myself continually distracted by a 120mm figure Im trying to get finished.
Slow progress with the Hurri, but Im getting there

I've started an old ESCI TU 22 kit in hopes that I may actually finish something...for once! So far I've almost got the forward fuselage done.

Great build, Jean-Luc. Very nice effect on the white wash. Funny to think that the model is half filler

Todd, great progress. The camouflage looks very good and striking with the red stars added. Very nice shading.

Ryan, it will be very interesting to follow the Backfire build. One of the old cold war scary things

I shouldn't tell, but sometimes I only wait an hour before applying a second coat of paint or Future... I know it's not reasonable!

Below is a new VVS Campaign Table to reflect the latest changes...

Thank you all for your participation and... good luck with all your projects!

Loos superb, Jean-luc!
Really nice work on the winter camo. The exhaust stains are especially nice. Your innovation of making the control surface details with masking tape worked out really well too. I''ve got to try it out on my sample.

I'm making progress too, although I think a couple of people are going finish their entries before I get this one done if I don't stop lazing around.

The landing gear is good out of the box, although a few modifications make it better and easier to attach. First, the tail gear leg is supposed to be mounted with a tiny nod that fits in a depression.
No can do. I shaved off the nod, drilled a hole and inserted a piece of metal rod.
The main gear legs fit to the wells loosely, so I glued a piece of styrene as a shim and sanded until the legs fitted snugly in place. The only other addition was discarding the supplied PE brake lines and using metal wire instead.

Dryfitting the tail gear well doors, I had one of those tweezer accidents when parts go pinging into oblivion. Fortunately it wasn't a big chore to make a new one from styrene sheet.
Next it's time for masking and then priming.

I dunno if its just me but the table looks exactly the same as the previous one. I'll sign up for the campaign and decide on what to build once I have finished my Tomcat Campaign

For this campaign I will build the Amodel 1:72 I-16
It was a bit of a shock when I opened the box, I knew that the I-16 is a small plane, but that it would be so small in 1:72... and on top of that there's a lot of flash

Looking really good guys.

Ok I've joined with my Yak9T, got the paint through from WEMS just waiting on a reference book and I'll get started.
