Me 410 Resin Upgrades
Resin Upgrades For Meng's Messerschmitt Me 410

by: Rowan Baylis [ MERLIN ]

Meng's quarterscale Me 410 is a very fine kit (one of the most impressive debuts in this scale I've seen), but there's no getting away from the fact that it's let down by its distinctly odd propellers and stubby spinners, and, rather undernourished and inaccurate oil coolers.

Sergey Kosachev, the Russian master modeller behind Vector kits and accessories, has come to the rescue with a pair of excellent resin correction sets that are designed as direct replacements for the Meng parts.

VDS-068 provides a pair of correctly shaped new spinners and individual propeller blades. The casting in the review sample is basically perfect, without a bubble or blemish to be found. The blades are beautifully thin, with an accurate aerodynamic profile. Each blade has a solid locating pin to ensure it sits firmly at the correct angle in the mount on the spinner's backing plate. No instructions are included, but to be quite honest they aren't really required, and the set will be ideally suitable as a first resin upgrade for anyone new to working with the medium.

VDS-070 contains two new lower cowling sections with correctly shaped oil coolers and and separate interior inserts and radiator flaps. The difference compared with the Meng parts is very noticeable, the radiator baths being much broader and fuller, with parallel sides to the flaps like the full-sized originals, as against the tapered Meng parts.

Fitting the new radiator parts requires a little more work than the propellers, as the lower section of each of the kit's nacelles must be cut off carefully. As with the propellers, there are no instructions included, but the set is really self-explanatory.

Conclusion
Sergey's resin corrections will make a simple and dramatic improvement to the Meng Hornisse. I'd categorise them as almost "must haves" to bring out the best of Meng's otherwise impressive kit. Highly recommended.

I've been modelling for about 40 years, on and off. While I'm happy to build anything, my interests lie primarily in 1/48 scale aircraft. I mostly concentrate on WW2 subjects, although I'm also interested in WW1, Golden Age aviation and the early Jet Age - and have even been known to build the occas...

Excellent and much needed. With this it makes for a near perfect kit. Gaston
