Among the latest resin upgrades from S.B.S Model is a set of new wheels for the popular Italeri/Supermodel (and Tamiya) 1:48 models of the Kfz. 385 Opel Blitz and, of course, perfect to augment S.B. Model's own Tankwagen conversions.

Arriving in one of S.B.S's familiar cardboard cartons that are both distinctive and offer good protection in transit, the set comprises 11 flawlessly cast pale grey resin pieces that offer an immediate and marked improvement over Italeri's slightly nondescript vinyl tyres.

The wheels represent the late 8-bolt type, with the tyres featuring crisply defined tread patterns and excellent detail on the hubs. Holes in the hubs are flashed over, so a minimal amount of preparation is needed prior to fitting the wheel, which entails a little surgery to the kit's axles - clearly shown in the accompanying A-5 sheet of instructions. The tyres are modelled un-weighted, so you may want to file slight flats on the bottom to avoid the truck seeming to "stand on tip-toes".

Conclusion
S.B.S Model's set represents good value and, for me, is just the kind of straightforward improvement that the kit has always cried out for. It's simple enough for modellers to use, making it an ideal introduction to resin upgrades.

I mostly concentrate on WW2 subjects, although I'm also interested in WW1, Golden Age aviation and the early Jet Age - and have even been known to build the occas...

I would love to see a comparison made of these with those made by Propaganda Company. Gaston
