Vought F6U-1 Pirate Canopy
Vac formed canopy designed for the Admiral kit

Pavla Models has released a vac formed canopy for both the Admiral 1/72 Vought F6U-1 Pirate kits.

Contents

The one piece vac formed canopy is contained in a resealable transparent plastic bag. This is a beautifully clear and thin replacement for the one piece canopy from the kit. The kits canopy looks fine but removing the sprue has been known to cause unwanted marks on the clear parts. The canopy is formed in the closed position and does not have the slight gap of excess plastic that you normally see on Pavla canopies. I do prefer the closed canopies as the plastic is so clear. There is no need to open up the canopy to see all that lovely photo etched and resin cockpit detail that is supplied in the Admiral kit.
The framework is well defined, the shape looks excellent and the plastic feels robust. You do need to cut the canopy away from the excess plastic, just take your time and use a new scalpel blade.

Conclusions

This is a great looking canopy and particularly worthwhile acquiring because of the fine looking photo etched and resin detail cockpit detail that is included with the kit. Nice one Pavla Models.
SUMMARY
Highs: Very good looking canopy, nice and thin, but not to delicate.
Lows: Great care needed if you really need to separate canopy from windscreen.
Verdict: Highly recommended if you want a crystal clear canopy for the Vought F6U-1 Pirate.
