P-47D Thunderbolt “Bubbletops”
  • EC104_Colour

by: Rowan Baylis [ MERLIN ]

EagleCals EC#104 consists of two sheets of decals which are beautifully printed in excellent register. The items are thin and glossy with crystal-clear carrier film. Sheet #1 comprises the personal insignia for the featured aircraft, while Sheet #2 contains a full set of national insignia and a comprehensive set of stencils.

Markings are provided for three spectacular schemes:

1. P-47D-28-RE, s/n 44-199965, B8*C "Chief Seattle" flown by Lt. Joseph Murphy, 362nd FG.
2. P-47D-30-RA, s/n 44-32773, 4P*S "Big Ass Bird II" flown by Maj. Howard Parks, 406th FG.
3. P-37D-30-RE, s/n 44-20344, #54, "Norma/Little Bunny/Helen shared by Lts. William Lyke and Brad Muhl.

What always makes EagleCals stand out from the crowd is the quality of their research and sheet #104 is no exception, with each colour-scheme backed up by comprehensive notes and a separate sheet with photo references including rare WW2 colour shots of two of the aircraft and a description by Lt. Murphy of a mission in Chief Seattle.

The schemes chosen offer plenty of variety, with the first two in a classic n/m finish with highly flamboyant personal markings, while the third represents an entirely different painting challenge, being an ex-Brazilian AF aircraft wearing weathered Olive Drab camouflage overpainted in places with RAF Dark Green.

EagleCals #104 is available in the following scales:

EC#104-32 $14.50
EC#104-48 $12.50
EC#104-72 $10.00

Conclusion
Whichever scale you're working in, EagleCals latest P-47D decals are highly recommended for anyone looking for top-quality replacements for the original kit decals.

These, as always, look good. I just happen to have a 1/32 bubbletop and want to make a really colorful "Big Ass Bird".
