Fw 190 A, F & D Cockpit Snapshot Upgrade Set

Roy Sutherland has released a beautifully detailed 1:48 resin Fw 190 cockpit set as part of his range of BarracudaCast Shapshot Upgrades.

The set is designed for Eduard's superb new-tool Fw 190 kits, but can also be adapted for use with other 1:48 models of the Würger.

Arriving in a simple zip-lock bag on a card backing, the set comprises 9 cream resin parts and a detailed set of instructions.

As you'd expect with any set from Barracuda Studios, the casting in my sample is flawless, and the level of crisp detail is excellent. Modelled by Roy himself, along with Joe Banakovic III, the parts look pretty straightforward to prepare and install - the seat will probably take longest, with a little extra care needed to remove it from its casting block.

All the parts offer dramatic improvements over the standard kit items - and even the rudder pedals go one better than Eduard's etched versions by including actuating levers (you just need to add foot straps). The seat harness is beautifully reproduced, and is cleverly designed to allow you to anchor the shoulder straps to the cockpit tub in the same way as the full-sized harness.

The upgrade proves the following items:
Seat (with integrally cast harness)
Control Column
Rudder Pedals
Map Holder
Throttle
Canopy Opening Crank
2 Alternative Gun-sights

The small sheet of instructions includes well written notes and clear colour photos of how to install most of the parts. The gun-sights and canopy control aren't shown, but referring to the kit instructions will be quite sufficient.

Conclusion
This is another gem of a set from Barracuda Studios and it will produced a beautifully detailed "office" for a 1:48 Fw 190. It looks straightforward enough to be a good choice for newcomers to working with resin, and it's very reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

I mostly concentrate on WW2 subjects, although I'm also interested in WW1, Golden Age aviation and the early Jet Age - and have even been known to build the occas...
