History

The SPS-141 ECM pod was a Soviet designed POD for protection from both air and ground threats . This equipment was designed to jam the Hawk (MIM-23) anti-aircraft defence system. It was designed to affect the missiles homing head automatically once the enemy radar had locked and launched a missile against the aircraft carrying it. No special training was required for the pilots carrying the pod since it was a defensive one. The pilot has only to select the most probable threats in priority.

In the box

Packed in the now standard foam backed blister pack, the SPS-141 ECM pod is well protected.
The pod is made up of four parts, with the body in two parts, with the two horn antennas.
A special pylon is also included, along with the control panel which fits in the cockpit.

Each part is connected to a casting block, but having used several Eduard Brassin sets before, its no trouble removing the parts from them.

Detail is good for these parts, with some fine engraved panel lines in the main body. The control panel has some raised switches.

Instructions, markings and decals

Two A4 size sheets are supplied, one with the build and painting sequence, and another sheet with two colour profiles of Czech aircraft it is fitted too.
The instructions are the typical couple of build sequence steps commonly found in the Brassin sets, with the rear of the instructions having the painting and decal guide on them. You have a choice of two colours for the Pod, silver or gray.

Although Eduard's SPS-141 ECM pod is shown attached to two Czech aircraft in the instructions, it was used on other countries modified MiG-21s.

A small decal sheet for the pod is supplied, which also has the two aircraft numbers and badges. No national markings or stencils are supplied for the aircraft.
