BO 105 PAH-1

by: Joe Szczygielski [ MOTHER ]

This is a 1/32 Scale Bo 105 PAH-1 "Tiger 16" Helicopter Plastic Model Kit from Revell.

SPECS: Length: 10.5" (26.7cm) Rotorspan: 12.0" (30.6cm) with 153 pieces all molded in dark olive green plastic.

The kit features a moveable main and tail rotor, radar warning system and the new rotor blade design. The large bubble like canopy is clear and distortion free. It also has molded-in wiper blades. The fuselage features raised panel lines which are minimal. The interior is weak and simple, the instrument panel dials are raised and missing the detail. On the plus side the seats are clean of any molded seat harness and lap belts. The weapons equipped with the kit are three rocket launchers on each side of the fuselage, the HOT anti-tank missiles system.

Decals & Instructions
The decal sheet carries the markings of the Bo 105 PAH-1A1 "Tiger", 2./Lfz. Abt. 162. In early 1978, the German army started to demobilize its units; this gave the Bo 105s from Aircraft Division 162 in Celle the opportunity to bid farewell in a special livery with the heraldic animals of the unit, the tiger and the gryphon were painted on both sides. The decals are thin and are in a matt finish.

The instruction booklet covers 29 steps with easy to follow assembly, painting and decal placement.

While looking over the kit, I placed the two fuselage halves together and found no problems lining up. I also found that the interior cabin can be slid into the fuselages large opening. All the ejection pin marks were found on the inside of the parts leaving no visible holes to putty and sand. I found the plastic to be much softer then I experienced with the older Revell kits.

Conclusion
I think with some photo references and a little work, this can be a really nice addition to ones helicopter collection. I was able to get mine off of ebay for $15.99. I saw many more going for the same price. On line hobby shops are selling the between $23 -$30 dollars.
SUMMARY
The Bo 105 is regarded as the most successful design in the light multi-role helicopter class, which is due to its maneuverability and is suitable for numerous military applications. The light-weight twin-engine multi-role military helicopter is equipped with outriggers carrying antitank weapons, and can also act as a scout version which has a mast-mounted sightabove the main rotor. Developed initially by Messerschmitt-Bolkow-Blohm in Germany during the mid sixties, the BO 105's Missions include: direct air support, antitank, reconnaissance, search and rescue, and transport. In addition to reconnaissance, observation and surveillance missions, this helicopter is particularly suitable for carrying task forces and casualties.
