The set could hardly be simpler - just two resin parts which are direct replacements for the kit items and a sheet of wood-grain decals. As you'll expect from EagleParts, the casting is spot on, without any sign of bubbles or other blemishes. The flaps are cast in pale grey resin, complete with their hinges and angle-indicators. One end of each flap is slightly hollowed out, while the upper surface is neatly scribed to represent the plywood panels with which the originals were skinned.

How do I know any of this? Because the instructions are excellent. They begin with a short history along with an eye-witness account from a Luftwaffe pilot and then give step-by-step instructions for preparing and fitting the flaps. But the real star for me is the back of the sheet, which features a full-colour set of reference photos of the flaps on the preserved Fw 190D-13 W.Nr 830017.

The wood-grain decals are nicely printed, with the panel lines marked and the wood-grain varying as shown in the reference photos. Since EagleParts have supplied a decal sheet, it's a shame they didn't also add the angle-indicators - but, to be honest, if they hadn't included the reference shots, I'd never have missed them! EagleParts point out that some modellers may wish to try painting the wood-grain rather than use the decals - which, of course, is the perfect excuse for me to add a link to my own article on painting wood grain.

Conclusion

This conversion set will make an eye-catching addition to Hasegawa's Fw190D. Thanks to it's simplicity, it's ideal for modellers wanting to try a resin conversion for the first time. Recommended.
