In the beginning of December the Modelling Club "Oluj" (The Storm) organizes The New Year's Cup. This year it took place on a cloudy Sunday, December the 11th in the Museum of the Yugoslav Aviation. The museum is located in the proximity of the Nikola Tesla International Airport, Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. The museum is a heritage of former Yugoslav Federation and all I can say is: What a place to have a modelling show! The models were exhibited in the centre of the circular museum building, surrounded by real size Hurricane, Spitfire, Messerschmitt, Yak, Shturmovik, Thunderbolt, Thunderjet, Sabre Dog, MiG 21 and many many more. There were 430 models of all genres in competition with aviation section being the strongest. Beside there were also 150 non-competing models on display. One very important aspect of The New Year's Cup is that it's international with competitors from Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany and Slovenia; all in all 138 competitors. The Slovenian delegation was "6 men strong" and we took some firsts, some seconds and some thirds. At the end I would like to mention that we spent a pleasant weekend in Belgrade with many thanks to our Serbian friends for their hospitality and see you next year. Enjoy...

About Marko Vidmar (vidmarko)
FROM: SLOVENIA

I made my first model airplane in the middle of the eighties when I was about 10 years old. As I recall it was a Czech L-60 "Brigadyr" by East German manufacturer VEB Plasticart in 1:100 scale. In those days Slovenia was a part of former Yugoslav Federation of Socialist Republics and the only availa...

Tanks to Marko and Rowan, Some really nice models there... Few items are really eye-catching. I presume the most of the models are built by guys and gals from Belgrade and Novi Sad, but I may be wrong. I am considering to come next year, because I missed it this year. Marko, wish you all the best for the New Year!

Thanks Marko, for taking the time to take the photos, and for the time involved in posting them for the rest of us modelers to enjoy.

Many thanks to Entoni and Dave. @Entoni: thanks for wishes and I also wish you all the best in the coming year. Regarding the models: yes, most of them were built by Serbian modellers but not all. Best regards, Marko
