How do you evaluate the effect of the internet on figure modelling and its future?
Well the internet may have effected the hobby in some ways as less youngsters would be interested in the hobby, and more to just sit on their bums and waste time staring at the monitor, but if used wisely the internet is an endless source of inspiration and knowledge to broaden our figure modelling spectrum.
If you could paint or sculpt a figure of any person or character, whom or what would it would be?
They would definitely be my parents for giving me all that I have both mentally and physically, in the best upbringing one could ask for.
If you were allowed to paint only one figure for the next year, which one it would be?
Definitely Pegaso’s 90mm mounted Genghis Khan
Your figure modelling “no no’s” , what are the things you never do on your figure modellings or what are the things that should never be done on figure modelling?
Definitely bad construction. The basic and elementary steps of a sound and solid construction from head to toes must be top notch without any “gaps and shortcuts” on any scale model!! I mean you can never make an aircraft with one wheel not touching the ground, or with a wing slightly drooping then the other, or with a mould line not sanded smooth and showing thru the paintwork, so how can you display a figure with feet not standing perfectly on the ground, or with a mould line still embossed on an arm or a leg or a face . This may sound far fetched but I’ve seen such stupid mistakes and IMHO apart that these basics should be rigidly thaught to newcomers and youngsters alike, they should also be severely punished in competitions so that the modeller would learn his lesson.
Your figure modelling secret? Remember as you share with us it is not a secret anymore.
Honestly I do not have any modelling secret. I have shared what I learnt both at club level and also via the inetrnet and also in magazine and book articles that I contributed to. I am never afraid to show my techniques to anyone. He/she who remains in obscurity, always hiding and concealing his/her technique, always lives in fear of that someone who learns from him/her might be better then him/her one day .
That is exactly what I would like to see.........cross my heart and find the truth I feel on top of the world if/when someone would say “I learnt how to do this from Ray Farrugia” that for me is the Best of Show I can ever aspire for, which makes me happy till eternity.
As I said earlier, I owe everything that I know and that I am (I know nothing and I am nothing & no one really) to SSM and to this BEST MODELLING CLUB IN THE WORLD I dedicate this questionaire.
