The Ships at ModelTroia 2009
XI ModelTroia ContestThis years ModelTroia Contest, the eleventh, was for the first time held in Lisboa, in the Forte do Bom Sucesso, a XVI century fort that also houses the Museum of the Combatant, focusing on all conflicts that Portugal have entered in the XX and XXI Century. This fort is administrated by a non-profit organization, the Liga dos Combatentes (Combatants League). A very dignifying place, in the Lisboa waterfront, just a stone away from one of his most important landmarks, the Torre de Belém. The ModelTroia staff surely hopes that the event can continue in this place, and that this can be a long relation between the two entities.
The ships...Strangely this year we had more ship models only on exhibit than competing, but, perhaps it is a sign of the times... I really like that more ship modelers could come forward and bring their ships. There's is no reason to fear the competition or the judges, by that matter. It is one of the ways to improve our skills, learn new talents, evolve. The Japanese Flag table was shared between two SIG's: GIN (Grupo de Interesse Naval - Naval Interest Group) and 1/72 Japanese Aviation SIG Some of the ongoing projects seem to be very interesting like a 1/72 scale USS Essex class CV or a very small 1/700 Armed Trawler... we can wait for these to grow and be finished. Many thanks to all modelers who have entered and visited the Event - until next year! Enjoy the photos....
