The Old Bartonians were a team of former students who attended Eastleigh County High School, originally Barton Peveril Grammer School.
The team reformed after the war around 1948 and entered the Eastleigh League division 2 which they won, and were promoted to division 1 and became runners up. They then applied to enter the Southampton Senior League, but were told "Junior Leagues first", and were put into junior league 4 (of 7) which they went on to win without dropping a point! They were then put into division 2 which they also won, plus a "double" as Southampton Junior Cup winners. Thence promoted to Southampton Senior League division 2 which they won, together with the Southampton Senior Cup, and Junior & Senior "double" in successive seasons.
During the 1948 to 1958 period they also won the Hampshire Intermediate Cup and Hampshire Junior B Cup. My grandad was the "ever present" no. 7 goal-scoring outside right, and I think played 10 seasons and approx 400 games. He was once invited to attend training sessions by Bill Dodgin, the Southampton Professional Football Club (“The Saints”) manager at their famous Dell ground, but had to give that up when he went to Architectural Collage.

But the locally famous "Old Barts" had Ivan “Nobby” Creed signed by Saints as a pro, and Ivor Astbury had Arsenal trials as did Harry Baxter. Most of the Old Barts that are "left" still have re-unions once or twice a year, the last was in Dec 2008, average age about 80 (not as fast as they once were!). Those spread around the world, like grandad here in Australia, are in frequent email or phone contact and still 'replay' those golden memories and games, they could go on and on for hours!
