Catania Show 2007
introduction - by CostasWhen, I started dealing with historical miniatures, or figures if you prefer, I found out, that the world, of people that is engaged, with this hobby, is not exactly similar, with the rest of modelers, on the other “branches” of the modeling hobby. It is not a matter of this moment, to analyze, my thoughts on this, as the discussion could go for long, but in all I must admit that the situation and atmosphere of the figure guys is different…just that . I have realized also, that the sport, is more competitive at least to my humble opinion, and gets, near the borders of art and for some guys , and profession for others. This might be good or bad , depending on the character, the education, the experience and the real essence of everyone’s soul.
I had to do this intro, because, is really important, to give the feeling of a figure Show, that differs a lot from another city to another, and from another country to another.
So far, I have been able, to visit some shows in my country , and some outside of it . I can assure you , you don’t get the same vibrations every time. No way !
And that was the reason, that I had to go for the second sequent year at Catania as a judge again. To be honest, being a judge, is not equally adrenalizing (excuse my word making habit !) to the feeling of competition, most of figure modelers have inside, as if you were a competitor.
But ….the honor and proud, being invited by the people of the Club, for this purpose is so deep and touching, that is not exchanged or balanced by any kind of medal, believe me…
So it was really natural to accept the invitation of CSMS, and that was really advanced by the fact that a close friend (brother I should say) like Engin would be there as a judge also. And the team would be completed from Italian friends and collectors Fabio Nunnari, and Renato Scuterini, and 2 of the biggest stars that this hobby ever showed..Bill Horan and Mike Blank. Well you cannot say no to all this concept, and I did not had any intention to do it !
arrival to Catania - by CostasOn Thursday 6th of December, after 2 flights from Athens, with middle station at Milan (where we met with Engin, Figen and Ragip ) my family and I arrived at new airport of Catania. Well known faces of Lorenzo Romeo and Maurizio Bruno were there to pick us up. The happiness both of them and us to see again good friends is beyond description.
Then after a short route, through busy, and full of life streets of Catania, we settled at the beautiful Hotel “La Ville”, no more than 400m distance from the location of the Expo. This is pretty convincing, since, its really good, to have the ability, of visiting your hotel, on foot , in short distance, to have a refreshing shower, change clothes and everything, during the day. Leaving our luggages at the hotel, we headed to Expo area; Le Cimiere, viale Africa.
