Firstly I would like to say thank you Mal for taking your well earned Saturday to come and Judge 195 (Grimsby) Squadrons 7th Annual Model Comp and to also do some general modelling (not that Mal did much in between all the talking to one of our resident scratchbuilders, Derek (Widow61) :-) ) There was a small turn out and judging seemed to be really difficult but a decision was finally made. Heres the pictures for your enjoyment.

Mal judging the comp.

A judge making notes?

The entrants with their models and the prizes kindly donated out of Mal's own stash.

First place, Paul Roberts (paulrobz) Toyota MR2

Second Place, Lewis Tuffnell (Tuffners3169) Mustang

Third Place, Paul Roberts (paulrobz) Mazda RX-8

Forth Place, Royce Coates (phoenix50002) Spitfire Mk16

Fifth Place, Royce Coates (phoenix50002) Spitfire Mk5?

Well done to al those involved.

Excellent work chaps! Well done!

It's good to see our young uns living a quality lifestyle, delivering the goods and making me, (now) as an apprentice wrinkly…

Well, quite frankly...

Great to see all the entries and a big well done to all of the builders. Every model looks great.
Will they be entered into the Bulldogs MoM comp (hint hint ).
Very nice of Mal to judge the comp, I just can't believe he didn't let a Spitfire win :-) .

Lol, you just don't know how close it was to a Spitfire winning Actually the 2 Spitfires were built by the same cadet, his first and second models. The improvement in the too was impressive. This I would put down to the dedication of the builder but a great deal of the credit must go to Sam and Allen for their dedication to teaching the cadets the necessary skills.
It was another enjoyable day with the bonus of talking to Derek (Widow61) who showed us more of his projects, one being a 1/32 P-61 Black Widow. I have now signed up to "LSP" (Large Scale Planes). Since talking to Derek I have "re-thunk" the method of replicating chipped paint on my N1K1 and I am determined to re-paint the mission markings on my P-51B.

I must also confess here that, one of the "gisits" that I got together for the entrents to the comp, was actually donated to the tombola at Telford.

i thought that harvard looked familiar! its fair to say that those prizes have definitely gone to good homes, judging by the standard of the builds in this.
well done, to the competitors and to mal for doing a difficult job in judging some nice builds

Congratulations everyone!
Its great to see the younger members building to such a high standard,,better than my efforts!
The Harvard was one of the kits I donated to the tombola fund at Telford. Great to see its gone to a good home!,,,Looking forward to seeing it built and displayed on the site and the Bulldogs stand in future.

Mal,

It was very good of you to come all that way to the Squadron in order to impart some more of your considerable knowledge, and judge the competition for us. I feel that the Cadets had a wonderful and productive day, even though we more than 'chewed over the cud' a bit . A big thank you also must go out to Alan and Sam for all of the donkey work in organising these days. It is always a pleasure to talk to and meet Mal, so here's to the next time .

Cheers

Derek

(Bye the way, that scratch built 1/32 P-61 Black Widow is, er, actually 1/24 scale Mal ).

Oooops, yes I did know that, sorry Derek (age? ) what a monster it will be, I really am looking forward to seeing it progress

Nige, I must apologise for "nicking" the Harvard before asking (actually I had forgotten that you donated it). I hope that you really don't mind
