Hola!

Im most definently in! Will be great to work on this little project.
I do have a question though; What qualifies as a "window"? It has to be a framed house window with or with out glass? or it can be any opening that serves the same purpose i.e hole in a wall etc? Im not trying to make it complicated, its just that I have an idea! It contains a hole, but not a house window.

A window can be several things... if it is a "ruin" then a window frame laying on the ground beside the wall rubble would do fine... but if you have an intact building, then it could be the Window opening in the wall itself. Obviously, the more detailed, and the more readily apparent the "window" the more points you score in my book! For the sake of variety, I can accept a window as an implied place in a wall, or a Window frame itself. When in doubt be obvious!

Keith,
This will be my first WWII work in twenty years !
I'm very excited about this.
May I suggest the complete "game rules" are tied up into one clear document and posted as such to avoid misunderstandings ?

Jim,
When all agree on the starting date, the countdown can begin ! Could you add a small countdown clock on the homepage to prepare for the start of the campaign ? Such things raise the interest of visitors to the event, and the code may be used to announce other events in the future too ?

How about just a big black painted area to represent a window just kidding .
yes agree need a final set of do's and don't

And I think one entry per person would be fair as some people build heck of a lot faster then others and would flood the place with 6 entries.

I think the idea of a "contest Counter" from GENERAL FAILURE is great, and WOULD generate a lot of interest if we put it on the main page.,,, but I would suggest a count-down ticker to "When Contest Concludes" (Friday January 10th) rather than when it starts.. Let's let people see how much time they have LEFT to complete the project.

The actual "start date" is NOW... AS SOON AS YOU DECIDE TO ENTER! Just be finished, photographed, and submitted by January 10th!

As for the number of entries, we will limit this to "one per person".

As for official rules, i will establish a new Subject for now called " DIO CONTEST RULES". Please do not post messages there... continue to post questions here. I want the rules section to be a quick reference site. If there are any updates or clarifications to rules, I will ammend them to the original message in that post. I might suggest you SUBSCRIBE to that folder as well, so if any updates are posted, you will be automatically notified.

As a moderator, you can choose to lock a topic to prevent further postings. AND you can 'sticky' a topic to make sure it stays at the top of the list of dio topics.
These options should be at the bottom of the screen near the button.

Cheers!

Hee hee... My name is YodaMan, and I'm an ArmoramAaholic...

The one dio limit is fne with me. My original idea fit in with the 'window' theme, so I'll go with that. After the window idea was annouced, I had another idea but I don't think I can find a figure to fit it. (it's OK to post what we're gonna do, right?)
I think it'd be cool to have a soldier crouched under a window. On the windowsill there would be a German helmet or other things to suggest an enemy soldier is in the room. The US soldier would be creeping under the window, gernade in hand and preparing to throw...

Hola!

I just finished reading the 'official rules'. I really like everything exept one thing, the idea that it can be ANY figure instead of a sniper. Since that really was the main idea from the start, to have everybody do a similar situation (a sniper) and see how each person decided to render it. With the concept now posted in the rules, the main idea became somewhat warped. Instead of all working with the same goal, to portray a sniper, its is now so broad, it can be anything with a window in it. This doesn't leave room for the same kind of ingenuity and creativity as it would have been with the sniper senario, hence taking some of the fun out of it.

This is just my opinion, I will enter anyways, just thought I'd share my thoughts and see what everyone else thinks.

I'm with Anders - the original concept is what drew my interest in the project. Though I don't mind the organizers opening up the parameters, I'm going to stick with the original theme...

As some of our other group builds have shown, it's hard to always reach a complete group consensus on selecting subjects, etc. I think that the rules Keith has outlined are inclusive enough to allow users to build their perfect sniper vignette, as well as allow those who have other ideas around a window based theme.

Besides if it was up to me I would have enforced the winter dio theme. #:-)

My thanks to Jan, Toni, and Keith for their efforts and leadership on this project. Here's to seeing some great results.

Cheers,
Jim

PS: Somewhat contrary to Keith's rules on submissions (which I see to be fully correct for the actual competition part of the contest), I will be setting up albums in the Gallery area for those users who believe they can process and upload images that meet site guidelines (file size less than 50kb). Please send requests through the site contact form (link below).

Yes Jim - i think you hit the nail squarely... I certainly don't want to discourage folks from doing the Sniper in the Snow thing... but I was already emailed by several folks who said they liked the idea of a "themed dio contest", but didn't want to do a sniper.

So to accomodate more entrants (especially new Dio experimenters) I removed that restriction, while still allowing for it. Ditto the snow... while I actually like doing the stuff, i know the newer modelers are really hesitant to try it, because it is a more advanced technique. While wanting to preserve a certain amount of "planned regidity", we picked a size (4x6), period (WWII), limitation (single figure) and an arbitrary feature (window) to compltee our set of criteria.

I still think the majority of folks (75-80% from what I see!) will be doing the original Sniper concept, but if we find that five or ten more people enter now because they aren't "forced" to do a sniper theme, then we as a forum group win together... more people are joining the diorama experience.... and may get as hooked as we are!

or as Yodaman might say :

".Good it is.. turning from the Darkside, seeing the light of the Force, they are...yes! Now - where are my sniper snippers?")

Good that is, but questionable the last part may be. Sniper Snippers, what are they? Sensed them before, I have not. Known or unknown, fear them not. For fear is the path to the Dark Side...
Serious, this talk is. Have a beer I must.
LOL! #:-)

Even though I'm in the planning stages of my first dio, I can tell you that there will be another one!

Here's the ultimate challenge for those who like to practise their skills on vegetation. And yes, there is a sniper in there !
