I am re-starting a childhood hobby of model building. I have completed the B-29 Enola Gay (1/48 scale) and would like to try adding some interior lighting. How do I figure out what to buy, how to do it etc?

To be honest, I think you're going to find it a frustrating endeavor to attempt adding lighting after the model has already been completed and your results are going to fall short of your expectations. Adding lighting to a model is something that is generally going to need to be planned out in detail before the build starts. For example, if you want lights in the wingtips the wires pretty much have to be run before you put the wings together. Might also be worth starting with something less complicated and that you don't care as much about so that you can get comfortable with the process.

Good luck!

Christopher,

Cool idea. When the B-29 was released in the 1970s, they included a Shep Paine insert and he illuminated his B-29 with LED threads.

Here is a site with Shep Paines' inserts.

Hi Christopher,

In these old-site forums, to reply, you just select REPLY at the lower right of your message. That puts your reply in the forum for everyone to see. In this forum, there is no way to reply to an individual's post like you can on Facebook. But the new forums allow you to reply to the thread, or to individuals. I encourage you to post in the new forums ( https://forums.kitmaker.net/ ); since some members (like me) still prow these soon to be retired - but not removed - sites, you might want to also post here for as long as these forums work. These will eventually be archived for view but not for posting.

Until then if you keep using this forum, to reply to an individual, you type their name and then your message, but that's it. You can also quote that person - as I did you - by selecting REPLY & QUOTE, lower right corner of your post.

What about the new KitMaker? Here's what the site owner/Master/Commander/programmer/Grand Poobah said just a little while ago:

The following (old) forums will have seen their last posts in a few minutes. You will still be able to access and read them but replies and new topics will be off. Please move all conversations over to the new forums at https://forums.kitmaker.net/ from this point forward for them.

Historicus Forma (will put up a separate announcement in their forum)

Thanks,
