Okay Sherm-aholics! I usually do German armor, but every once in a while I dabble in the Allied stuff. My question is, what was the return roller on a Sherman VVSS made from, rubber or steel? I have searched the internet and just can't tell if it's painted rubber or steel. Help me Obi-wan's you're my only hope.

On a combat vehicle, the roller surface was usually buffed clean of paint and was a
dark bare metal, a result of its rolling on the track surfaces. Also, the outer face of the rollers were constantly brushing against the track end connectors too.

Thanks Roy,
That explains why I had a hard time determining the composition.
