I can't see any photos in this thread - using Chrome. Is it just me, or do others have a similar problem?

Thanks,

Gene K

When I try to view individual images, I get a message saying that my browser can't find Kitmaker Gallery 3, so it's likely that the server gallery 3 lives on is down right now.

Thanks for letting me know Gene.
I'm still seeing my photos and I'm using Google on my phone at the moment.
Anyone else having problems?

I'll take the opportunity for a quick update, although unfortunately no new photos.
I've continued with the decals. Crosses are all on and now just working through the stencils. The decal sheet is huge and it's tricky working out which ones are needed and keeping track.
I've also got the struts at wheels cleaned up and started on their painting.

Thanks Gary, will get some new photos up soon.

I think the gallery server must be experiencing some problems. I get 'server busy' when I click the gallery link.

Hi Stephen

It would be great to see some pics, but as I understand things at the moment the server needs serious hardware upgrades , hopefully the issue is resolved soon

Wow! Been so long since my last update.
Hope the photo's are working and everyone can see them.

Since last time I've been trying to get all the fiddly bits done ready for the final assembly. Still seems like I have a box full of unused parts and decals, so I'm constantly having to check that I haven't missed anything. The final jobs always seem to take forever on large complex kits. I think I might build a simple Matchbox after this just for a break

So, first the struts. Looking at the instructions I noticed that the port forward inboard strut needed the anenometer fitting. Looking at the reference photo in the instruction sheet, this was attached with a metal strap around the strut. I made this up with a thins strip of the the thinnest plasticard I could find. Seems a little out of scale, but I think it will look ok once painted. I didn't do any measuring, just eyeballed going from the photo and the pilots eyeline from the cockpit. Which was probably how the real thing was fitted.

And lastly the cabane struts. These were a little awkward to clean up and I managed to break one of the attachment pegs when trimming the large sprue gates. Bit tricky to get it reattached at the correct angle, little bit of wire and plasticweld soon had it fixed.
The particular aircraft I chose also needed the altimeter fitting between the struts. To make a positive joint between the altimeter and struts, I drilled and inserted a piece of plastic rod between the two parts. Gave me a good solid join and allowed me to adjust the angle of the dial.

Will do Gary and thanks.
Hoping to get the struts painted tomorrow. Then seal the decals and start weathering. Still not sure how I'm going to tackle weathering on the lozenge. Maybe an oil wash and light dry brush over the stitching will do it.

yep, nearly there now Stephen

Great work around with the struts and nice scratch building of the anenometer

Thanks Russell. Turned out ok after the struts had been painted. The instructions say to paint the anenometer RLM02 (or whatever the WW1 name for it was), but it looked a lot darker than that in the photo. I know interpreting a B&W photo is always tricky, but I guessed that it could have been a dark grey or green. To make it look a little different to the rest of the airframe and to match the dials in the cockpit, I used Revell's 09 Anthracite on both that and the altimeter.
And finally the red stripe strut decals. WNW suggests these could be warning markings for the gunner, intended to stop him shooting them off! I'm inclined to agree with them. Although I'm not sure if that would be a problem with the bar mount on my aircraft, as the gunner would have to sit on the rear fuselage to even be able to shoot in that direction!

I did have to cut a small section out of the one to get it to fit around the meter strap. Not a major problem.

Little bit setting solution was needed to get them to settle down. The opposite wing set are identical, just mirrored.

I also got the first coat of paint on the prop and have started painting the wheels.

Getting nearer the finish line now.

Thanks Jacob. All the decalling really has been a challenge with this kit.
Whichever WNW kit I do next, it probably won't be one with lozenge!

Nice work on the decals, Stephen

yer, I suspect the unintended invention of the monoplane wasn't high on their to-do list

Thanks Russell.
When I was putting them on, it reminded me of that scene in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, when Indy's dad shot off the rudder!
I'm going to have to look through my references, but I wonder how many more aircraft had these stripes. Would have been a lot more useful on ring mounted guns than the bar. I'm glad I did that version though. The WNW German 2-seaters I have are ring mounts and this adds some variation. As well as opening up the gunners position to show off the interior a bit more.

Not sure how much more I'll be able to do this week. We're going on holiday Friday night and I still have to pack!

Thanks for looking.

A classic film! Love it! I wonder how many planes got shot up by their own gunners!

Holidays?! Well, enjoy! In the land of Victoria downunder we're not allowed got out of our house, let alone go on holiday

Well Russell that was the plan. We were due to fly out to Malta on Saturday, but then rules on 2 weeks self quarantine on return came into effect. We simply can't do 2 weeks when we get back due to work.
So a few phone calls to the travel agents and we've been able to change dates to next summer. So at least next year's paid for.
We've been able to get a couple of nights in Wales instead.

Hopefully you'll be able to get back to normal soon and get away yourself.
