Hi. I have finished my Mustang. It may not be a beauty queen, but I am actually very please with the result.

Incorrect sir, that's very much a beauty queen!

Stephen, well done on your Spit! I like the clean look

Shrimpman, I can only second what the other said. Your pony looks great, I like especially the first photo. Really well done!

My Mersus are also developing well. MT-230 has all decals on and I think I can show you a new photo within the next 1-2 days ....

MT-230 has all decals on and sealed. Only thing still missing is the canopy and some flat varnish, which I will apply tomorrow. Everything should be done by next weekend including painting the tubes of the 20 mm underwing guns ....

Great build, Peter! Your 109 looks really unusal with that fuel tanks under the wings. Congrats!

I call my first Mersu also done
Messerschmitt "Mersu" Bf 109 G-2, MT-230, 2./HLeLv 28, Finnish Air Force, Värtsilä, Summer 1944
Pilot: Kapteeni Jaakko Puolakkainen (1915-1999)

More and better photos soon in my Assembly Line Thread. MT-508 is in the decal hangar right now. Update follows soon.

Thanks for this great campaign. I really enjoyed it as it gave me the opportunity to tackle this dual combo finally ....

Good luck for all your builds!

Hi All,

Lots of good stuff going on here!

A bit of an update on my Bf-109. I'm getting close to putting this one to bed. Never having done the mottle on the side of one, I think it turned out ok, perhaps a bit overdone. Oh well, it was different and kind of fun!

Colors on..

Next up were the decals. I guess being a bit older or something, they were on the fragile side. So, I opted to leave off the stencils that came with the kit decals. The kit decals were ok, and responded to both Micro sol, and of course the stubborn one got hit with Solvaset!

Gonna pass on doing much weathering on this one, as they were supposedly kept pretty clean. On to the fiddly bits and some pretty pictures!

Stay safe, wash your hands and keep on modeling!

That's a gorgeous 109 Peter!!

Here is my second update on Douglas Bader's Spitfire MkVA.

This kit did not want to go together nicely and fought me at every turn. You can still see some gap on the nose but I had reached the point where anymore sanding would have ruined the shape. From 3 feet away its not visible so I am going to have to live with it.

Basecoat is down. Now its on to decals and then some washes etc.

Thanks, Rory! Your Spit looks fine anyway, so go on. I like the camouflage scheme and how you applied it yet. I'm looking forward to see it with decals on
Cheers

Very nice jobs everyone!

Here's where I am with the 1/32 ZM P-51K:

It's no Tamiya, engineering wise. One little surprise I ran into in using their own photo-etch set, the instrument panel overlay matches the kit part right down to the tabs on the sides. Those tabs fit into slots in the side panels. Or they did fit into those slots, before the photo-etch overlay went on. Sigh. I managed to pry it up enough to snip off those parts of the photo-etch, but hopefully you're now forewarned in case you want to give this one a go.

It's a nice kit, but it's no fast build. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not gonna finish in time without an extension. Any other takers?

I'd take one. I am still working, so haven't had the extra bench time some are experiencing right now.

This is going a little slower than I wanted it to be going. I could use a bit more time.

Fuselage finally buttoned up, after 2 seam splits. Bunch of sanding left.

So much great work here guys!

Too many to mention.

For my own part work has continued on Airfix's Bf109, Mustang P51D and Spitfire Mk22 all in 1/72.

But now I have made a decision to put the Bf109 and P51D to the side and concentrate solely on the Mk22 in order to complete at least one aircraft for this campaign

The reasons being are that I have struck problems with the Bf109 and the P51D is proving to be more work than I have time left in which to complete for the campaign.

Over to the pics

First up here's where the P51 got to before being sidelined....

and the Bf109's progress before being sidelined

and here's the damage I mentioned earlier. Basiclly I'd clamped the tail together then somehow when I was applying the extra thin, the extra thin did what extra thin does and got into the space where the clamp was! Argh!

Easily repairable but not in the 3 weeks left of the campaign!

And finally here's the Spitfire Mk22... Hopefully this will be a straight forward build now through to the finish line!

Hope you're all staying safe and healthy!

Ouch Russell! That hurts!

Well, don't know if this will help or not, but it seems to me that I have enough interest to go ahead and extend this one. I'll give it another month and this campaign will now end on 6 July (to give us one last weekend.) But (he said to himself) THAT'S It. So GET GOING!

Blue splinter scheme, nice!

Yesterday was a good day on the 1/32 ZM P-51K:

The Mustang's Achilles heel, the cooling system.

Starting to put some skin on. Last look before it closes up.

And from the top.

Looking good in there. Note the ZM kit does away with everyone's favorite part of P-51 kits, dealing with the seam under the intake.

The last we'll see of most of this. But WE know it's there!

And suddenly...

it's starting to look like a Mustang!

Sorry, lots of images. But I wanted to capture everything before it goes away. Fit, not surprisingly, is bit tight (thus all the tape), but it seems to be working! Feels like it took a long time to get to this point.

Not sure how much time I'll get today, it being Mother's Day and all and SWMBO will probably not appreciate me spending it in the basement, but we'll see...

Wow, that looks amazing, Michael!

Russell, that's a good idea to concentrate now on the Spit to get the ribbon and carry on with the others later.

I'm nearly there with my other Mersu MT-508 ....

Have added MT-230 to the gallery now, so the ribbon will be mine ....

Hi All,

Good stuff going on here! Lap Man, I like the blue splinter scheme. Michael, lots of stuff you don't see, that's a shame. Torsten, very colorful scheme!

I'm calling this one done! My first WWII German aircraft in 46 years, now I have another adversary in the case. This was a very fun build, I'll be doing more of these to work on the camo especially the later years. Hope you enjoy, I did!

Onward to the B-17! Be safe, wash your hands, and keep having fun!
