Oh Crap! This one ends in 6 weeks. Here's my entry. Academy's P-51C Red Tails version.

Could be a small challenge with a 4 piece fuselage.

Wish me luck

Hi All,

Given the world situation currently going on, I'm taking advantage of the silver lining presented to me, by staying home and building!

I've not built anything from Germany in WWII since 1974 (Mongram's 1/48 Bf-109). It was a fast build, lots of seams, and hand painted frames. Not a pretty build, but the P-47 and Spitfire needed something to shoot down! Fast forward 46 years, and I'm gonna give it a try!

Here's my entry, Tamiya's 1/48 Bf-109E-4/7.

I'm finding this kit to be a really nice one, of course it is a Tamiya! One neat thing I discovered is that the cockpit can be put in through the bottom, and there's moldings that allow upper the wings to be glued to the fuselage before adding the lower wing. This has two big advantages, first gluing the fuselage together and working out the seams, and second attaching the wings that assure a seamless fit to the fuselage.

I did paint up the cockpit per the kits instructions, unfortunately the instrument panel decals shattered, so I painted it with some diluted white. It looks pretty nice. I also added a set of Eduard seatbelts, which turned out to take longer than the assembly of the airframe.

While watching a movie, I constructed the airframe. This thing fell together so fast! Sadly, I didn't really stop to take any in-progress photos.

Getting ready to paint after 3 days!

This will painted in the 71/02/65 scheme, as these are the paints that I have on hand. More updates to follow!

Take care, stay safe and wash your hands with soap and water while singing the birthday song twice, often!

Ooops! Have noticed that I haven't posted any progress of my Mersus builds lately. Okay, to my excuse I'm concentrating on my build blog with already 76 photos in it.
Anyway here's a small summary of my work since my last posting. Both canopies were masekd and painted with Revell No. 77 ....

.... afterwards both build got some white primer over all ....

.... MT-230 got its yellow Eastern Front markings with Revell No. 310 ....

.... MT-508 got RLM 76 on the underside with Vallejo 71046 ....

.... and MT-230 got RLM 65 on the underside with Revell 49 ....

So, now you're up to date with my builds. If you want to see more, please check out my Utti Air Racer blog in the WW2 forum.

Have a nice Easter and stay safe!

Nice looking work around here!

Making some progress on the 1/32 Zoukei-Mura P-51K. Engine is all done:

What do I think of the kit so far? Well, there's a LOT of detail, but it's all a bit tricky to fit in. Bottom line is, if you want a kit with excellent detail and where parts basically fall into place, go with the Tamiya kit. If you want scads of detail and an adventure of a kit, Z-M is the one to get.

I've started this model couple of months ago. Since, I have been working slowly on.

It will depict Suez crisis fighter, one of the cable cutter 'stang with the blue/brown Camo and Yellow Black IFF bands.
I have finished the cockpit, the rear wheel bay and the oil cooler area three days ago.

After some research, I've figured out that the IAF mustang were D-20 series, and replaced the Hasegawa dashboard with Photoetch from Eduard.

Tonight I've glued the fuselage and the wings.

Progress photos on my Mustang, with base paint on and most recent one with decals applied. I've changed my mind and decided to switch from version C to B in the meantime. The number below the canopy is ahistorical: I've ruined the original decal piece (it broke up) so I've used spare markings from a different version instead. Sorry for the bad background, I have no workspace now since had to set up home office on the only table.

Anyone having issues in uploading pictures to the campaign gallery? When I try to upload the pictures I end up with a blank screen and the pictures remain in my upload queue

Raj, the uploader is terrible at communications. What I've found after pounding my head against the wall is that there is a size limit that isn't mentioned. Try to reformat your photos to 1024 for the widest dimension, in general the pics have to be 3Mb or less, I usually aim for 2Mb.

Raj, I always upload my photos with the same quality I use in my assembly line thread and elsewhere. The are 800 x 600 pixels. Have no problem with uploading them into the gallery.

Shripman, your Mustang looks very nice. You don't have to feel bad about it!

Some progress on my Ilmavoimat Mersus from the last couple of days. MT-230 is already pretty far ....

.... while MT-508 has met a Spitpaint last weekend ....

.... still have to repair that damage but RLM 74/75/76 are on now ....

.... and my work on the spinners ....

Next update soon!

Some progress with my Messerschmitt reconnaisance fighter

I really like this kit, it has the parts from the molds of the AZ Messerschmitt Bf-109. Detailing and fit is fine so far!

Nice start on your Recce-109, Peter! Is it a G-5 then?

A bit more progress on my Ilmavoimat Mersus. The props are ready for some action ....

.... both Mersus got their landing gear, first MT-230 ....

.... and then MT-508 ....

.... today I gave MT-230 a shiny look because everything is painted and with the exception of the pitot tube and the underwing balace weights all parts are glued to the model ....

.... I will concentrate now on MT-230 with the decals to fin(n)ish this campaign. MT-508 will follow a bit later, the decal there are a bit difficult to bring on with the white and blue checkers ....

Really nice-looking '09s, Torsten!
My recce-fighter will be a G4/R3 version, the decals are more colorful than for the G8 in this kit

Lots of great work here!

I made a bit more progress on the Zoukei Mura 1/32 P-51K. I've been using their photo etch set (which looks and behaves suspiciously like Eduard). There's the usual amount of fiendish parts that are obviously included just to mess with modelers, but I think it turned out fairly well:

One problem is that the pre-painted finish is impervious to dull coating, so it's a lot more glossy than I would have liked. But after three coats, I had to move on.

I have completed the cockpit of my Spitfire Mk VA. It was very spartan so spruced it up with a bit of PE. Its still glossy in these pics but I have since put on a matt coat and it looks much better.

PE control panel

And seat belts.

Hi. I have finished my Mustang. It may not be a beauty queen, but I am actually very please with the result. I get used to watching very well made models which make my works look like toys, but when I compare this Mustang to P-51D Ive build about 1.5 years ago, this one is so much better. It was a pure joy to build. Mistakes were made, but not as many as usual. As far as my abilities are concerned, I have certainly outdone myself. Cheers!
