Hi all,

A short update on my MiG-21. I masked up the bird in preparation to add the off-aluminum color that is pretty distinct on NMF MiG-21's

I then sprayed with Tamiya Smoke mixed 1:4 with Mr. Leveler thinner. And then removed the masking.

I was duly impressed with the look of the smoke on the NMF, it was something that I intend to use in the future! Sadly, I realized while removing the masking tape that I'd neglected to give the bird a coat of clear. This resulted in the Tamiya tape interacting with the Alclad II, leaving tape marks that would not come out of the polished aluminum paint job.

So, this means a repaint again. Given the time, and projects on the bench, I'm putting her on the Hangar Queen path. Maybe this years, but definitely by next year! The Eduard kit is the nicest and most trouble free kit I've built in a while. I'm looking forward to building their F6F-3 Hellcat!

Till then, be safe, wash your hands with soap while singing the birthday song twice, and have fun!

John

It looks like we have come to the end of the campaign. We didn't all complete our MiGs this time, myself included so I hope we might have another go at it in 2021. I hope to be settled in my new home by then and back to building.

Please get your pictures posted to the campaign gallery:

and I'll get the ribbons awards tomorrow.

Well, that's it folks, MiGs 2020 is done & dusted. The awards were handed out a few minutes ago. If I missed anyone, please let me know. Thanks to all who participated and shared their work.

I want to rerun this campaign next year. Anyone who still has an uncompleted project can try again. That Trumpeter MiG-17 is still winking at me from the box its packed away in . . .

Thanks Paul for a great campaign!

It was, at least for me, a pleasant diversion into wingy-things from my usual lair of the model shipyard. Now back to that Japanese Navy destroyer...

Tim,
I love those tiny Migs. Sometimes I wonder if I should try to venture into 1/144 again but I think my eyesight would hamper me. I got a question about the Tamiya paint. Did you gloss coat it before you put the decals on? Did you use a clear flat coat afterwards? I'm thinking I need to did out my 1/72 Eduard Mig-15's and give it a go.
As always I enjoy watching your builds.
Take care and stay safe,
Don "Lakota"
