Si,

fine work as always, she looks really good!!

Turret tops altered almost constantly as far as I can tell, the yellow is well known for some Norway operations, but I think there were various colours.

Cheers,
Jan

Thanks Jan,

I think Orange was used as well, not sure about other colours, but my research in this area is a long way from complete.

Cheers

Si,

Nice work with those gun mounts, is that orange paint? A nice colorful looking ship.

Mark

Thanks Mark,

It is Yellow, I think the colour balance on the camera needed a tweak. Kriegsmarine units taking part in operation Weserubung, the invasion of Norway had their turret / gunhouse roofs painted yellow as additional air recognition.

Cheers

Si

That I didn't know until now. Good to know as I have some kits from Dragon I was planning to build in the future as if they were in Norway Campaign.

Mark

Hi Mark,

It appears the Yellow turret tops for the destroyers were only used for the invasion in 1940, although according to some sources the Z30 did have the entire gun shields painted yellow in the summer of 1942.

I think Trumpeter produce that vessel though.

Mark: None of the Dragon 1/350 offerings were in Norway in 1940.

Trumpeter has a Z-7 in 1/700 that was in Norway, but evidently was plagued by engine trouble

Ditto Si. The Colours really make her stand out from the crowd.....Cheers mark

Thanks Mark,

I do like a bit of colour in all the grey, and the Kriegsmarine did like making sure the Luftwaffe could tell their ships from allied vessels.

A little progress over last weekend.

The 37mm guns. The kit barrels are a little stubby.

With a left over barrel from a dragon mount (pity I don't have two complete spares) for comparison,

I think I shall invest in some Veteran mounts as a replacement.

The main guns given a coat of paint.

detail painted along with the TT's

All fitted in place.

More soon - ish.

Cheers

Si

The P/E certainly adds some refinement to her. She is looking good Si.....Cheers mark

Thanks Mark,

The kit is bit basic by today's standards, the PE goes a fair distance towards bringing it up to date.

Si,
Love the rails on the pinnace. They are so very thin. Are they PE?

The guns look great, and the open torpedo mounts are greatly helped by the WEM parts. And are much more interesting than the later covered version.

Gaz

Hi Gaz,

Yes they are, that, the cabin and the awing are all from the WEM etch.

I do like the open TT's too, a they add a bit of interest, it is nice to get good aftermarket for them too.

Cheers

The weekend's progress.

The boats painted and ready for fitting.

I know the transport boat would not sit on it's cradle with an awning raised, but it is such a nice piece of etch it would have been a shame not to use it.

Fitted in place.

The Torpedo tubes, the kit control position is not the best. The WEM parts are rather good, and a spare binocular mount added for the sight.

The base of the kit twin 37mm mounts as provided. Thanks to the photo provided by Gaz, I went on a detail hunt.

With some left over Pontos parts added to the base.

The kit main armament. It is a quite acceptable rendition of the parts considering not much will be seen on the completed vessel.

The breaches.

and with the shields fitted.

More soon.

Cheers

Si

Very nice work, Si! I came across this picture, and thought you might find it useful since you have two of these to mount.

Cheers!

Gaz

Thanks Gaz,

Great photograph, very useful indeed. I am using the kit mount, WEM has some useful etch on the fret, and I can probably find a few more bits and pieces in the spare etch box.

Cheers

Si

Some small progress.

The two pulling boats to bit fitted around the midships structure painted.

The cradles for them fitted in place. No etched replacements for there parts, but then I am not sure that is the right medium.

The boats in place.

Bit of a bad photograph, but a base coat on the two motor boats.

More soon.

Si

Thanks Mark,

Although this kit does look a little basic, it is not bad, and a decent set of etch helps.

Si,

Nice progress, love the work you did on those railings. It's not easy at times getting those bends just right.

Mark

Thanks Mark,

I have to admit I find complex bends like on one section almost impossible., cutting them into sections makes it much easier, I just need to be careful where I leave the open end.

Si,
Even those simple photoetch improvements make a big difference with the gig!

Hi Tim,

They were needed, the kit cabin is way too small and lacking detail, the etch was a very good fit too.

Thanks for looking in.

Cheers

Si
