Thanks Ned & Mark,

Glad you like it, my experience from seafaring days, canvas covers are dirt magnets, especially when exposed to spray, funnel downdrafts etc.

Pity the poor Japanese seamen that were set to scrubbing those covers, likely every couple of days.

The upper boat needs some lashings, then more boats.

Cheers

Si,

The funnel rigging looks great, the turn buckles seem to have worked like a charm. Nice job on the boats and giving them that worn / dirty look.

Anxious to see more.

Hi Russ,

I must admit that I am quite pleased with the way the turnbuckles have worked out.

It is good to be back on this one, boats next, lots of them...

Thanks for looking in mate.

Cheers

Si

I must admit, that for you, this is quite a long build, Si

Those funnels look great with the white on and all the stays!

Hi Dave,

The turnbuckles went well, I am glad I went for the metal items from Gaspatch, rather than plastic, not only for the colour, but they were sturdier.

I think a touch of wash adds a bit of depth to anything with a canvas cover.

You will not have to wait long for the next update, just need to upload the photos,

Thanks for looking in.

Cheers

Thanks Russ,

Well a three month or so break hasn't helped, and still quite a long way to go.

I am rather pleased with the end result I must say, this weekend's update still to come.

Cheers

Si

Having done the funnels, it is on with the boats.

The four pulling boats that sit with the steam pinnaces inboard of the gangways,

Test fitting the boats.

The lashings on the upper of the centreline boats done.

Railings and ladder down to the maindeck fitted to the gangways.

A little bit of gizmology will cure my slightly off folding.

more soon

Si,

Nice progress. What did you use for lashing?

Thanks Dave,

I am likely thinking a couple of strand of copper wire at the level of the horizontals on the railing, fitted trimmed to length, and painted white.

We will see if it works come the weekend.

Thanks Mark,

The lashings are strips of paper, painted on both sides with light tan acrylic, fixed down with spots of cyno.

Thanks Rory,

I am getting a lot of help form the kit, and the Pontos upgrade set. Next job will be getting paint on the boats.

Painting and fitting the boats.

Base coats sprayed on.

Basic paint job done.

Pinnaces ready for fitting.

and the pulling boats.

As these are not directly aft of the funnels, the weathering on the covers is a little lighter.

fitted in place.

next jobs, lashings for these boats, then the guns and railings on the gangways.

Cheers

Hi Mark,

Thanks, and you are right, my mistake for some reason I posted the same photo twice, one of those days I think.

Cheers for looking in mate.

Thanks Russ,

It is nice to have real brass funnels to work with for that bit.

Some progress over the weekend.

The lashings on the steam pinnaces fitted.

and on the pulling boats.

A view from above.

The deck edge railings for the gangways.

A slight problem for the 1902 version, the don't appear long enough to go all the way round the edge of 6" casemates.

Fortunately, when I can remember the safe place I put the kit Frets in, they have some of the correct length.

Cheers

Si,

Again nice progress. How did you mount the railings? Are there holes for the posts? At 350 scale I have a dickens of a time getting those posts to attach because of the tiny surface area. It becomes a real pain to mark and drill holes.

The details look really effective Si, especially those boats.
