Hi Si,

She's turning into a pretty little ship. L'Arsenal did a great job with the kit, and you are making the most of her!

Thanks Tim,

It is a very nice kit indeed, a little more complex than the average resin ship, but very well done.

Appreciate you looking in.

Cheers

Thanks Jan,

This kit has a lot of detail in it, which I love, but enough room for me to be able to play a little.

Appreciate you looking in mate.

Very quick Sunday update.

Four cable reels are required to sit on and around the pompom platform.

deck details fitted in and around the pompom platform.

The pompom platform in place.

The basic assembly of the pompom, unfortunately resin barrels are provided rather than brass, they have yet to be fitted.

I may yet decide replace this unit with a North star unit.

Cheers

Si

Si,

She is coming along nicely. Interesting to see what the barrels look like in resin for that scale. Do they stack up as good as brass?

building up nicely Si, but you're correct: that pom-pom seems to be a bit lacking

Northstar units are very nice-highly recommended!

Hi Mark,

I am not sure about the resin barrels at all, they actually look a bit long and skinny. I am at least going dig out some brass jobs to compare.

Will look at this next time at the bench.

Thanks Russ, I have a couple of sets in stock, I am tempted to finish this one, and build a North star unit, and see which looks best on the platform.

This week's progress

The North Star pompom assembly under way, compared to the kit parts.

as the North star example is a little larger, (measures up as more accurate) both test fitted.

The kit unit.

The North star unit.

It fits, that is now the way forward.

Railings and ladders added to the platform.

The North star unit test fitted again.

The ammo boxes and barrels fitted.

Brass ammo belts are provided, I will fit those after painting.

More soon.

Cheers

Si

North Star products can be a bit fiddly, but that pompom is crazy good!

Hi Tim,

They are, but worth the effort. The origami involved in folding the base from piece of etch is quite something.

The pompom is probably the weakest past of the kit, it looks skinny and undersized, and a bit lacking in detail, which is surprising compared to the rest of the kit.

Cheers

Si

Thanks Mark,

The pompom is nearly done, now I have learned to follow North Star's instructions to he letter, it has gone together quite well indeed.

Hope to get it finished and fitted shortly, will update later today.

Thanks Mark,

North Star's gear is very good, although there etch is quite fine and the do like complex and fragile origami. I know it goes against the grain for quite a few modeller, myself included, but it works better if you follow the order in the instructions.

The pompom continues.

All built except for the brass ammunition belts.

painted and the brass belts fitted.

Not bent to shape in the above

The TT's fitted, they are not the best part of the kit, would look to scratchbuild when I get round to another one of these.

The pompom in place.

Cheers

Si

Si,

That Pom-Pom looks wonderful and complicated to build. Nice effort.

Thanks Mark,

It actually went together pretty well, but the secret is following instructions exactly. It is certainly a noticeable improvement on the kit parts.

This week's progress.

The searchlight platform / emergency steering position. The searchlight is not the kit item, nothing wrong with it, just that I managed to break it and loose the lamp. I cobbled a new one together out of spares. Also so voice pipes have been added.

Fitted in place.

Detail parts added to X gundeck, now just needs a little paintwork.

Paint job done, and fitted in place. it did not quite fit into the depression for it, so the gap was filled with extra thin gator glue.

The extra ready use depth charges ready to fit alongside X gundeck, very nice castings too.

Fitted in place, along with the liferaft racks. A bit of paintwork to match the camo required.

More soon.

Thanks Mark,

Don't think I have built such a small ship with such a big part count. It is a very nice kit though, and I do intend to build a couple more because there are loads of great camo schemes.

Cheers

Si.
