Yes, the decals are dicey. They've been in some humid environments over the years. I've got a bit of fondness for Eastern, but the decals may dictate how it goes. Italeri / Arifix didn't pullout all the stops on this one. I suspect it has the same interior as their C-47, bench seats down the sides.

C-130. C-5. C-17. An-124. Airbus A400. C-54. C-47. York. Hastings. Yukon.

They're big. They're fat. They're ugly. They're slow. They're unsung. They're unglamourous.

Well some of these I had never heard of but in looking for ideas I did some googling and found the RNZAF had a fleet of four Hastings in the 1950's and 60's. If I can get one I will be in with one of these for the campaign.

cheers

Hi Michael, If you are interested in 1/144 scale, Welsh models makes a resin cast Hastings kit with RNZAF decals.

Also, Everyone modeling New Zealand aircraft should know about Old Models Decals Their catalog is an education.

So I discovered last night and hopefully one is on it's way from Hannants in the UK. I have never built a plane in this scale so I hope it's not too small.

I certainly know about Old Model Decals, but as I found out in doing some research for this campaign it is not so easy to always find the plane to go under the decals that appeal

cheers

If your decals are dead, do not despair. Vintage Flyer Decals does a very slightly different version of Eastern Airlines decals.

And if you don't like Eastern, the usual suspects do all sorts of DC-3 schemes

Neat, mind you almost no one knows about Santa Fe Airlines... Wonder if I should try the warbonnet scheme?

Mark, Jesse found a gold mine. These decals are great, I took a look at the Santa Fe Airlines. And Ive never heard of them.

An attempt by the railroad, yes that Santa Fe, to expand into airlines. Kinda went the way of passenger rail, only a lot sooner.

I have this -

look at all the orange on this one!

edit to add, if I build this vacuform C-133, Roden will surely release a new IM kit within weeks. So if you want an IM C-133 kit, lets get this campaign going and I'll make it happen.

didn't even have to start the kit, just suggest it in public and bam! here it comes.
I will mention that I also have the hard to find Anigrand resin C-133 kit too, which i paid way too much for.

Well it has arrive. The box is so small compared my assortment of 1/32 kits. I sort of wonder how they fit a four engine plane in there.

I will do an opening when the campaign starts in Dec.

cheers

Hey Michael, you may well experience some vertigo going from 1/32 to 1/144 scale! this is 1/144 -

Now how big is a Hastings? It so happens i have a Welsh models vacuform Hastings kit in progress. (you have done well to wait for a resin cast model. there is no need to go into the travails of making a vacuform here!)
Despite the four engines, Hastings is not a large aircraft, its closer to a DC-3 than a DC-8

tho still much bigger than a single engine aircraft like a Dauntless

In absolute terms the 1/144 Hastings model is about 240mm wide by 200mm long.

Here is another project i've had on hold for several years
I seem to have two Minicraft Lockheed Electra kits.

these kits are from the 1990s fair representation of the subject. Everything but the fuselage is copied from the even older Arii P-3C Orion kit, which i have built several times.

1/144 scale kits are quick and simple, so I like to build twins.
Neither of these liveries interest me particularly, but two ex-Eastern Airlines Electras N5511 and N5518 were acquired by the US Govt for use in the Kwajalein Missile range from late 1977 to c.1980, operated by Global Associates.

A nice broadside, unknown photog, no date, probobly Oakland via
This will be an interesting masking and decal printing job.

Now, this one sounds definitely like lots of fun. So, I am number 9.

I have got no fitting kit in my stash, but this would be a great reason to gain the Eduard Junkers Ju 52 Airliner version, I long to build.

Found some nice old pics in my Dad´s album. The print says, they are from 1962. But, I do not know, where they were taken. Have fun!

Oliver

Hallo Oliver, I have consulted with some friends and we are sure this DC-8 is in TCA - TransCanada Airlines livery. TCA had only two destinations on the Continent, Paris and Düsseldorf, as well as London, UK, and Shannon, Ireland.
I think the location is most likely Düsseldorf here.

This one is definately a KLM Viscount 803. I think also at Düsseldorf

This looks to be a really fun campaign! I tend to build models of more unusual subjects but in a campaign like this, that will be almost impossible! There are some really fantastic and unique models already proposed. As most of the proposed models are rather large (C-5 anyone?) in real life, I think I'll go in the opposite direction (sort of). I am planning on building an Ethiopian Airlines Cessna 172 in 1/48. The airline uses these to haul pax and packages around to the various airstrips in-country. There are some great photos of these parked next to Boeings and Airbuses at a major airport on the internet. Now I need to clear a space on my bench by December 1!
Have fun modeling

Wow, Jon, what a great concept! Not really prepared to follow your lead, but I had only thought of large haulers, not these tiny work horses.

Been a passenger in the Shorts, and maybe the Navajo. Only the suction of my sphincter against the seat kept them airborne.

I'm joining with SBS's Latécoère 28-3 'Comte de la Vaulx' in 1/72. The plane was French mail carrying float plane from 1930's for long distance routes. There were also other Latécoère 28 variants (with feels, etc), but I think there were only five of the 28-3 float planes built.

I'll post a proper start up photo once the group build officially starts, but here's box cover:
