Ive never built a vac kit before but its certainly intriquing! I have a falcon triple conversion covering the bf109g-12 and fw 190s-8 two seat trainers. There is also a bf 109g-14 that I was thinking about building to give it all a try. These are vac fuselages canopies and some details to be added to donor injected wings. Would this qualify?

Hello Lap Man and Rowan, it would be great to have y'all aboard and Rowan if you are able to convert this into your "HOW TO" article then GREAT! We only need one more, I have several kits that I would gladly offer one to the 10th. person a choice of.

That makes (10) now.

After Jonathan posted his selection of Vac kits I thought I would share mine.

Lap Man, Happy to have you on board, what resin kits are you deciding on? I would like to see.

Jonathan, I will try making a ribbon again. What do you think, a play on those from past campaigns.

@ Jesse: could I have your permission to use with changes your overview and rules and regs from the 2015 campaign?

More power to you guys. I have enough trouble with kits where the parts are solidly formed. I'm not ready for this...

Hi Drabslab

You should know my reputation by now - I wouldn't wait for me to finish if you actually want to get started!

Trying to remember what's stashed away, I might go for one of MPM's 1:48 Fw 58 Weihes or Do 217s, or possibly Koster's Mitsubishi G3M Nell.

All the best

You want the scope to include vacuform and resin kits, as well as multi-media and conversions, like the most recent time?

I am in favor. that should bring in more recruits.

here are a couple of slogans that might suggest a title and ribbon:

Anything but IM

Alternative media

Jonathan I like your suggestions, I had been playing with The Dark Art / VAC and RESIN. I wanted to use Jesse's signup page which has everything you've mentioned. If I can get her permission.

This is the a/c that I tried to finish for the 2015 vac campaign:

Vought SB2U Vindicator by VacWings48:

Vac_009

This is an excerpt from the 2015 campaign (Jesse C) and the wording is mainly Jesse C's which still applies to what we are looking for.

The Dark Art / VAC and RESIN
Operational Overview
Per a Jesse (quote) “For the most part, building vac and resin kits is seen as a dark art, practiced by only a select few who have mastered their mysteries. I think that's unfair so I propose a build which will challenge people to step up and tackle a kit which will stretch their skills. Any kit, any subject, any scale whose primary construction relies on vacuform, resin or a combination. Conversion kits for injection molded subjects would be permitted if the conversion is major; i.e. replacing 50% or more of the base kit.” (quote)
The Rules and Regs
The Rules and Regs
1. The model must be a vacuform or resin kit of any aircraft or armor. Major conversions (replacing more than 50%) of injection kits are permissible. Multimedia kits where the major parts are vac and/or resin are encouraged.
2. Models must be no more that 25% started at beginning of campaign and you must post at least one photo of where your kit is at the start of the campaign in the campaign thread."
3. Any scale, any era, any subject, any Nationality. "What if" schemes are permitted;
4. Aftermarket parts, conversions and AMS permitted;
5. The kit decals (if supplied) or aftermarket markings are allowed. “What if” markings may also be used;
6. Build as many kits as you wish, but only 1 ribbon will be awarded per person;
7. There should be a lead in photo of the kit along with the date of some sort with a minimum of 2 progress shots in the official campaign thread plus minimum of one shot of the completed build in the campaign gallery;
8. The finished shots for the gallery should be taken against a plain background. They will be used in a feature article so the background should not distract from your model. Show off your work, not your cluttered workbench:) Merlin, is thinking of a feature to post.
9. Dioramas welcome but not required;
10. Entries cannot be used for more than 1 campaign.
11. Most importantly have fun, enjoy your build, and share your progress with us all.

Contest Element
There will be a beautiful shiny ribbon for those who finish their builds within the time frame of the Campaign.

The possibility of a feature article is definately a motivation to finish a kit!

A rule should also be made to allow slightly started kits,
Michael Satin has been including this one -
6. Models must be no more that 25% started at beginning of campaign and you must post at least one photo of where your kit is at the start of the campaign in the campaign thread."

OK! that is (10) now to submit this proposal to the staff.

Tell me your names for the campaign, I came up with.
"The Dark Art / VAC and RESIN"

Start date of 2018 mid year or later for a hopeful 1 year span.

Take a look at the regs and give me your input.

The multi-year time frame is a departure - will be interesting to see what the admins do with that.

I guess next year is better than this year, for my personal outlook, so any start date in 2018 would suit me.
I'll only suggest a change of punctuation to your title, "The Dark Art : VAC and RESIN"

Hi there

Do you think the timescale might send out the wrong signal? Vacuforms aren't that hard to build (and if we're including resins (I'm still not convinced they belong in the same campaign...) - the best of latest ones are pretty straightforward.)

Personally, I'd set a limit of a year - and even that would only to allow for "life" intervening - not the difficulty of the build.

All the best

OK! Good input and reasons. Lets make it next year 2018 some time in mid year maybe (staff input) and one year length if possible.

Will submit after more have waded in.

I kind of agree with Rowan here, but still think a year is good for finishing-- at least for the Vac kits--he's right about the resin, frankly I'd just prefer vacs in the campaign, but I'm ok if we want to include resin. Also-- I think you should confine this Campaign to aircraft only, as there's already a campaign over in Armorama for resin I think. Just my two cents, but I'll go with whatever the group decides. There are some pretty nice vac and resin hydroplane kits out there though....Should we think about the model shipwrights guys and have this as a Kitmaker campaign?
