Little bit here, little bit there, all of a sudden my list of 24 tasks is down to 5!!! Progress!:



Put the prop together
decals
attach the landing gear doors
paint the exhausts
add the antennas and pitot tube

Almost there....

Some great work gong on here, really satisfying to get some of these old builds ticked off the to-do list I'm sure.
Mike, up close you can see some of the fit issues, but the finish and the markings on that Vega look great.
Mark, your P-51 is looking good. Very nice NMF, looking forward to decals going on. Close to the line now with the bulk of those jobs deleted from the list mate.

Thanks D!. The finish is ---old-new-Floquil Old Silver. I heard that Old Silver was the best stuff for NMF work. Finally stumbled across a bottle at the LHS. Turns out it wasn't lacquer based like real Old Silver, so I guess that made it New Old Silver. However Rust-oleum killed off the Floquil line so that made it Old - New - Old Silver.

It did work way better than Testors Silver. The paint cured, dry to the touch in a reasonable time. The paint job itself is 3-4 years old (Mustang Heaven Campaign) and holding up OK. I did notice it getting a but sticky to the touch while I was working on the cockpit, but that could be finger grease and not the paint. Still I'm using a cloth glove to handle the model as I finish it off.

But wait a minute Mark, aren't you working on a Mustang? Well yes, but this an Academy 1/72 P-51B that I 'finished' back in 2000. while it's been in storage a mouse ate the paint off of the spinner and the port side decal broke up. So while I was doing the spinner on my 1/48 P-51, I went ahead and repainted the spinner on this one too.

As to the Testors 1/48 P-51D, a made a little progress and even got a decal on it.


Now I have to pack them all away as I head to China for 3 weeks.

annndddd.. done.
Now to drag out the ladder after school and hang the Vega there just next to the Electra and after the Spirit of St Louis.

Yes 1/48, I started it in the 80's cut all sorts of panels out to add details I have since put them all back you can see in the last pic a bit.

I've long wanted to open up panels on a kit and show the electronics bays, just never been brave enough to do it.

After languishing on the shelf for a couple of years, I’ve attacked this Henschel HS123 with a hairy stick. It needs a touch up here and there. Just so long as I can maintain momentum and not get distracted with at least a dozen other ongoing projects, this baby might get finished sometime soon.

That Henschel has a very nice camo pattern, Matthew, it looks very good, as does the many other projects that are being saved in this campaign.

I didn't sit still either. The MIG-21 is a nice distraction from my P-47D build.

The Mig-21 is now painted in its intended colors:


And an Alclad Aqua gloss coat was applied 3 times by brush for the decals.

In the box of the Mig i found also these Shelf Oddity R-60 AA missiles, which apparently were ordered by me to dress up the Mig. The stuff is pretty tiny, with the missile body ~ 2cm in length. Lucky enough all fins have very small pins that seem to fit in holes in the body, so according to instructions, building these missiles shouldn't be too difficult .

Started with decalling. There are quite a few. One side is almost done and gives a good impression how it will turn out in the end.

Decals set fine with a bit of set and sol, although there is quite a bit of unprinted decal film, which is better to remove first before applying decals.

As it was till late last month, and the fact that I was unable to properly use the masks to get a perfect Blau 16 number got it on hold till now

Well I thing I can call this 1 finished. I painted the lines on the windshield, Cleaned up the camo and invasion strips and added the markings

Glad this 1 is finally finished
Now to take shoe shots for the gallery

Finally pulled the P-51 back out after it being on hold for a month and a half while I traveled and got everything else out of the way. During the hiatus, I noticed that the instruction sheet calls out for 3-4 of the 5 invasion stripes under the fuselage... It's for sure White-Black-White and maybe another Black but it's just a tine bit fwd of the rear wheel well. SO my list grows once again, just as I was sure I was near the end......

Pulled this out. I started it 20 years or so ago. Let's see if I can get it done

I have this unfinished build from last year. I am going to experiment with jet engines and the wings and fuselage.

Got the invasion stripes on the bottom of the fuselage, now I've got to re-glue the canopy in place and then back to the decals..

Don, welcome to our madness.. it's been a little slow around here lately, but with the start of summer we should have a little more time to knock off a few more of these ancient stalled builds.

I had to apologize to the crew over in Unfinished Business, I *shudder* started and nearly finished a new kit.. *hangs head in shame* and it's a tank..
