For all of Patton's bluster, could the Allies actually driven the Soviets out of eastern europe, never mind capture Moscow ?

I'm thinking of Allied Armor, they basically had no heavies to fight the JSU's and KV's.

Thought it woud be an interesting discussion.I'm certainly no expert on the subject.

My guess would be that the Allies (the US) would have threatened to go nuclear if the Soviets didn't return to say maybe the Molotov-Ribbentrop Treaty borders.
Slugging it out "toe to toe" would of been too bloody. I think Allied air power have prevailed in the long run (without the nuclear option) but the loss of lives on both sides too horrible to imagine.
The Post War hatred between the 2 sides would of made the Cold War look like a high school football game. Probable end result sooner or later would be the end of life as we know it.
Glad Patton didn't get his way !
A heavy & thought provoking subject Anthony.

I believe the Pershing would have given the Russian heavies some problems. They were initially labelled as heavies. The real gridlock would have been between the Sherman and T-34 tanks. However, I don't believe either side possessed the moral required for a prolonged war. This would account for the cold war never going hot. The moral of not only the soldier, but the civilian population simply did not exist. The real advantage was possessed by Russia. Its industrial power was comparable to the United States, but it would have home field advantage. This situation is best illustrPated by the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict. But, This is just my opinion.
