Hi Todd,

You won't have long to wait, the sun is shinning, so It will go today, if the weather holds up, might get the grey on too.

Cheers.

Very nice work on the sheer, Si!!

-and honestly, makes me shudder a little... Even it is 'only' some 2 mm lift, it seems quite a complex operation, together with the required work on the hawsepipes, and loosing quite some moulded detail on the hull. Well, the kit is not the next up in line for me, so a little time to contemplate...
You tackled that one very good indeed!!

Cheers,
Jan

Hi Jan,

Correcting the Hull was a bit of a leap of faith, but I couldn't live with the hull as was, especially as I have the WEM resin in the stash.

The only detail lost was the reinforcing round the original hawse pipes, and they had to go anyway.

Cheers

After a spring Sunday that allowed me the chance to get some spraying done.

The anti fouling masked off ready for the boot topping to be sprayed.

And sprayed.

Before masking the boot topping, I added the watertight on the bulkhead at the break of th fo'c's'le. (left overs from the Pontos Duke of York set.)

Boot topping masked.

Sprayed and unmasked.

More soon.

Thanks Russ,

My usual cheat method of working from the bottom up, save masking

Cheers mate.

Thanks Jan,

Just a plain 507c scheme, not 100% if she still wore here pennant number at this time, and have to recheck funnel stripes too as she was flotilla leader.

Cheers.

Paint going on the fo'c's'le and main decks.

I have walked a few ships deck in my time and the paintwork has not been an airbrush smooth finish, hence I prefer the old hairy stick.

First job masking off the semtex area aft of the breakwater. The breakwater is not glued down.

Semtex areas painted.

The steel deck painted, needs tidying up, and the deck edge as well.

Whilst that was curing, started prepping the main superstructure units for spraying.

I tried this construction / painting method out with the USS Laffey, but she was overall one colour, this time I am taking it a little further.

Cheers

Hi Todd,

Thanks, I am using a mix of the kit and WEM etch. Will be interesting to see how easy the deck is to ;paint with the railings in place.

Thanks Jan,

It went a lot better than I thought, would be quite happy to do the same again. (Interesting colour scheme next time)

A bit of progress today.

More brass going on the main superstructure units.

This is a mix of the kit brass and WEM.

Another issue that needs fixing, the funnel tops are closed off.

Chain drilled and basic assembly of the funnels done. This is to make cleaning up easier and finishing.

might get some paint on this tomorrow, weather permitting.

Cheers

Hi. What have you got to replace the totally inaccurate boats? My Eskimo went back into the box until I can find something suitable.

Hi Biggles,

I have the WEM boat set, which has two motor boats, (25' motor cutter and 27' fast motor boat) and a 27' whaler, there is etch on the WEM fret to help these out.

Oddly the skimming dish in the kit doesn't look too bad at first blush.

Cheers.

Nice work on the railings and sorting out those funnels. Is there PE for the funnel tops or will you leave them open?
And with the paint on the bow is a great success.

cheers

Hi Michael,

Trumpy provide some very nice PE for the funnel tops. Don't often say this about, but finer and easier to use than WEM's

More on the funnels when I post yesterday's update.

Quick update from yesterday.

Main superstructure units sprayed.

Decks painted and all test fitted.

Slight delay on the funnels. I knocked the after funnel on to the floor, and getting off the stool to pick it up, stood on it and squashed it a "little". it is still in surgery, but I reckon it will be ok.

The good news a parcel from the Ukraine arrived today, with 0.5" and British bridge equipment in some of which will be used in this. Will post some pics this evening.

Cheers

As promised.

The bridge equipment.

Resin binnacles, polaris, binocular mounts, voice pipes, sights, etch detail for them, plus chart table and captain's chair, even ship's cats included.

Quad 0.5"

Resin core, etched detail and brass barrels.

Cheers

Si
