Thank you Rowan!

A few words for others: this is an OOB build. It was not intended for display! I just asked Rowan to post it to show the kink that my model has in the tail section. I noticed it early during the build and checked everything twice (could not find a way to build it different). In the end I was not sure if it is intentional. Rowans test fits show his straight so it must be a mistake of mine.

Lukily I did not know about the shortcomings Sergey mentioned in Rowans Review thread.

So all in all: it was intended as a motivation build, this worked out well. I had fun and I am o.k. with the result (bare the kink, but you do not see it from every angle )

all the best

Steffen

Cheers Steffen

It was only after you said to feel free to post the pics that it occurred to me that you'd maybe e-mailed them to me to run as an On Display in the first place! Sorry if that's not what you intended - but it's a really nice build that's worth sharing.

All the best

Steffen, regardless of what your intentions were that is a beautiful build and I am glad a feature got posted. I will definitely pick up one of these kits soon. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Ian!

despite the shortcomings of the kit (see Sergeys new remarks in that thread), it builds easily.

If you close the pit like I did you can forget any detailwork except for some seatbelts .. you wont see anything. You can do a bit more on the rigging as the double wires have aerodynamic covers at their mounting points, which I omitted (knowingly).

all the best

Steffen
P.S. I also felt that the exhausts were much undersize

Steffen, some notes about painting scheme of your Chaika.
Some I-153 had sealing tape on the tail fairing, like this one

It looks like your I-153 had it as well:

Unfortunately I don't know what color it should be . And I'm pretty sure that tail should be silver, not white. I guess that this Chaika was repainted from standard prewar silver, and tail was left in its original color. Also it has antenna mast on the upper wing.

Sergey.

Thanks for your comment Sergey!

I used the picture in Sqn in action 157 pg.42 as a guide. The tape does not look that much different in colour but just in "structure", but I might be wrong. On your pic the tail has a certain sheen which it lacks in the sqn picture .. not sure this is silver, but who knows for sure.

BTW I just forgot the antenna ... doh.

Nice clean build. Why no weathering? I prefer not to weather most of my models.

Hello David

Well it actually is weathered. But (1) I do weathering to look good on the model and (2) I do not like over done effects. So it is not that visible on the photos.

all the best
