I am about to start my P-47D. It will be the Tamiya kit together with Aztek decals of a Vargas girl plus some Eduard and Aires AM (gun bays).

However, all depends on when we will have our family expansion, which is soon .

A little 1:1 project to work on, doesn't get any better than that! Keep us informed, it is a wonderful time for you Jelger.

Back from holidays I'll soon start my campaign build. I plan to build a P-47 M, using the Tamiya P-47 D kit. Is that okay or must I change many things which are visible in the end?
If you like you can follow the blog here.

Happy modelling!

Torsten, great to have you back on board, I hope you had a good holiday. Thanks for joining in this Group Build, I am really looking forward to following your dual build (already subscribed to the thread!), and the scheme you have chosen for the Bubbletop M will be striking.

Ok folks, Build Log thread number 8 is open for business so please make sure you check it out (as well as all of the others listed on the first post of this thread) and give plenty of comment and encouragement.

We are only just past half way through the build time frame, so lots of time remaining for others to join in.

Cheers, D

Update time, Torsten is making great progress on his dual build, up to filling and sanding on the major sub assemblies. Given that they are both Tamiya kits this should be a quick job!

John's Razorback is coming along very nicely with some additional details being added to the old Monogram kit.

My Build is moving along with decals all on now and up to weathering and final assembly. After that I will be starting on the base for my first ever diorama, that will be an adventure all of its own!

Well folks we are past the 3/4 mark on this Operation, just under 12 weeks to go by my reckoning. Time to update the various builds going on.

I have been snowed under at work so I have not been able to allocate the time I really wanted to on this project, I must apologise for that. My Razorback is still waiting on a wash to highlight the panel lines, then some very light weathering (exhaust, gun ports, oil streaks) probably using Tamiya Weathing Powder sets, then a flat clear coat to seal it all in place.

Torsten's Dual Build of the Tamiya Bubbletop and Razorback is progressing beautifully. The Bubbletop is completed, the Razorback is having decals applied, both builds look great.

I'm afraid that we might have lost Dave's Build due to some unfortunate communication issues that I have read about on another of his threads. I am trying to contact him to confirm.

I've had no updates on any of the other builds of late, so we can only assume status quo in those cases.

Cheers, D

Edit: BTW there is still plenty of time for more folks to join in if you have a P-47 and a set of 56th FG markings in the stash!

I am the first to add photos to the gallery!
The Razorback is also finally finished today, just need to take proper photos.

Torsten

PS. 4 campaigns signed 2016 and finished. Not bad, uh?

Update time, 9 weeks to go. Still no progress to report from me, very frustrating but unfortunately real life does take its toll on the hobby time allocations !

Torsten's Dual Build of the Tamiya Bubbletop and Razorback is now complete. Both builds came up very nicely and there is a lot of progress detail in the build thread. Definitely worth a read. It is also worth having a read through Torsten's Assembly Line Thread where these builds will be the latest additions.

Update time, Nige has celebrated a birthday and completed his "Tamiya Triple" for this Group Build!

Check the builg log HERE to see what a great job he has done on all three builds.

Congrats Nige, on 3 counts:
1. Getting older gracefully (hehehe)
2. Three more 56th Jugs in the display cabinet
3. Two sensational books on the 56th, more to come in the near future.

Hopefully some more updates soon, less than 2 months to run for us here.

Build Log number 9 is up and running at the eleventh hour (month??).

Jelger has fired up his 1/48 Tamiya Razorback build HERE and has made a fine start already.

Please make sure that you check out his build log.

She's finally complete (not really sure if you could call these shots in particular "progress", but I got there!)

Lovely build Nicholas, very well done. I have marked you as completed in the initial Roll Call/Status post. Many thanks for joining in and sharing your build with us.

There's about 3 weeks to go now, I'm sure there are some builds getting close to the line now.

Cheers, D

All good Chris, nothing wrong with a good sped build mate! You could even do a reverse build log, take a heap of photos but don't waste time posting them during your build. Post up images of the finished item then go back and show your progress.
I know we've been running 12 months, but there are a couple of very nice builds in progress so I'm thinking about allowing some extra time. I will do the rounds of the build logs and see where everybody is at and make a call.

Okay so young Damian likes build logs to accompany the models in his campaigns and I haven't done one in what seems like forever! So I'll be doing mine here. I'm just building the basic assemblies before I start painting.

So I'm moving along at a reasonable clip and have got most of the sub assemblies painted and together. The airframe is around 80% together or there abouts. I've gone into a little more depth on my build log but here are a few pics to see where and how things are going.

About a week to go in the official time frame folks. Even though we've been running 2 months, I think the subject matter here is worthy of extra time if anybody needs it.

My Razorback build is complete, I will post some shots in my thread when I can get a chance.

How is everybody else faring?

I'm thinking a month, a couple of weeks this time of year doesn't go far with all of the family commitments.

Cheers, D

EDIT: Decision made, I will allow and extra month on the end of the official time frame for us all to get our builds completed.

My build marches on I've got the engine and tail planes on. I've put the canopy in place and masked it and the areas I don't want painted. I've sprayed the undercoat for the metallizer which is Vallejo's satin black. It's an acrylic and the metallizer is a lacquer this may cause me headaches but we'll wait and see. I'll paint the drop tank first and see what happens to the base coat. So in short P-47 mostly built I'm working on the landing gear and ordnance. Tomorrow we'll see if there's more "fun" to be had when I spray the drop tank.

Okay so I painted the drop tank and it turned out rather well with no detrimental effects on the base coat. I didn't really spray that much paint at it to get it to look like this and it dried very quickly. But will probably take awhile to actually cure and harden.

Hi all.

We are a few days into "extra time" now, I will bump this thread every couple of days.

Chris is going well on his "M Speed Build" and hopefully we can get a couple more builds across the line.

Cheers, D
