Very sad to hear of Edgar's passing.

When I first started posting here he was debating the merits of the Airfix Spitfire Mk XII with a well known "rivet-counter".

Needless to say I had a few good laughs in that thread, so I'll give the Mk XII a go.

Yeah, "someone's" been strangely quiet about this. Looking forward to your Mk XII!

An obituary for Edgar was posted on LSP, this is the link to the web page. Included was a photo of Edgar.

Hi all

I remembered I've had Alley Cat's 1:48 Spitfire Prototype sitting neglected on one side since I bought it over 2 years ago! That can be my entry.

All the best

I found a page with over 100 images of RAAF Spitfires in various theatres, here is a teaser:

.... so I'll give the Mk XII a go.

Matt, you can't go wrong with the Spit XII from Airfix. It's a fine kit. Build it some time ago.

Damian, that are really some teasers ....

Meanwhile I know what I will build for this campaign. A few days ago the Spit IXc from Eduard in US markings waved at me when I was looking through my stash ....

Hi Damian

That first shot's got to be upside down - while it's stunningly dramatic, the underside couldn't be in shadow in a roll-over dive.

Ok, I found the same image viewed from North of the Equator

Rowan, your cricketers seem to wear their sunscreen over the lenses of their sunglasses !

BTW, either our maintenance guys can't handle a screwdriver, or the third image puts paid to the argument that you can't see panel lines . . . just sayin'!

Cheers, D

I'm not going to get started for awhile yet myself, got a few projects to finish up first. But, I just received this beauty for Hanukkah so it's calling me:

Or, I could do this one:

also with a PC kit

We'll see...

OK I have made a start and I will be building the Revell 1/32 scale Spitfire Mk II backdated to a MkI. It will be in the markings of the youngest pilot to fly Spitfires during the Battle of Britain, Plt Offr Geoffrey Wellum.

I will have my build blog in a separate thread.

Hi All I'm in. Thanks to AussieReg for spotting my build log elsewhere.

I'm building a pair of MK XIV one FR e and one c. to be depicted as post war aircraft.

With pretty spinners....

When I first awoke this morning, I felt it was a cockpit building day so with no cockpits currently underway I decided to get a start on my Edgar Brooks Memorial Spitfire build. For this campaign I picked the Italeri Mk.IX American Aces, a reboxing of the Occidental kit with a nice decal sheet (Incidentally my original decal sheet was badly out of register! Thankfully upon request Italeri send a perfect replacement right out to me)

Im not completely settled on my marking choice but for sure 1 of the 3 still visible on the lid. It will likely will be the bottom a/c in desert scheme flown by Lt. Vic Cabas 52nd FG, North Africa early 1943. Should contrast nicely with the RAF mustang I plan to build for the upcoming recce campaign

The cockpit of this kit cries for some better detail and as I would like to open this bird up I will make some scratch built improvements to busy it up a bit. Outside of that I dont forsee needing to add too much possibly exhaust, the kit part suffered some mold misalignment but I may be able to save it. I may also use a vac canopy but will give the kit parts a chance first and see if they look right with the hood slid back.

Im not that well versed on spitfires and my library shows it! But I'm always open to learn new bits of info so feel free to chime in on any technical info or other details that may improve my build, even if its too late because Ive got plenty other Mk.IXs to build later!!!

I'm in with Revell's MkII, that I will be correcting with the Barracuda Wings, Seat and Armor, Wheels, Cockpit Detail and Cockpit Door sets, as well as, the prop and blades correction set from either Eagle Editions or MDC, as soon as I find a place that is not OOS. This will be a spring/summer timeframe build, as Tamiya's 1/32 A6m2b Zero is before this build in the line up.

This will be my campaign build for Edgar. First time I lay my hands on the highly praised Eduard Spitfire. As usual it will be an oob build with the decals shown. Unfortunatly there are no stencils on the sheet, so I have to look where I can get some ....
I'll start this build as soon as I have finished my Fw 190 "overhang" from 2015, which will hopefully be next week.

I am in for this one.

I think I have an old monogram kit somewhere in the stash. I think it is a Spitfire II/III maybe?

Alternative is Eduard's royal class, which looks to be a beautiful kit.
