Andy Brazier builds the Eduard 1/48th Spitfire Mk.IXe Weekend edition out of the box, literally OOB, no paint, no filler, but he has used some glue otherwise the thing would fall apart.

Great build without paint and filler, that reveals the skill of the builder,but i still favor the more colorfull option.

I had a lot of trouble with the two piece upper cowling. Twice I stripped off the paint and polished the seam but it still showed as a faint dark line through the paint. Ultracast have just released a one piece replacement resin cowling that should solve this problem as well as exhausts that can be fitted after painting.



The fit of the cowling was so good that I held it in place with Blu-Tac while I painted the model gluing the exhausts and cowling in place at the end of the build. The propeller was fitted at the same time and I was able to invent a way of stopping it falling out.

@ Antoni - Nice build! I had fun initially with the cowl seam too - assembling it with CA filler proved the answer for me and it polished out invisibly. A resin replacement will be much easier though.

I was surprised that you only gave the kit a 85%. Sure glad I never had you as a teacher in school.

Me too, there was an American magazine series published about 12-15 years ago doing exactly that.

Yep that was one of the seams that does need a little filler. I might just get the replacement for the other Eduard Spit I have in the stash.


Thanks, every now and then I like to change the 'standard' build review with a straight oob version, espaically if I have two in the stash.


I would have scored it more but I would have shot myself in the foot scoring the Profipack version, which has a lot more bits.
