That is a cool build. I can barely believe that he even went to the trouble of weaving new seats!

Jessie, you read my mind, ordered a Roden BE2c tonight before I came on the site. I have done their 1 1/2 Strutter so I have a fair idea what to expect. Beauslx, I like the DH2 (Spinning Incinerator) too, but it is really a 1916 type, 1914/15 aircraft kits are rare. I have built the Eastern Express Bleriot 11 and I think I have seen a Vickers FB5 Gunbus kit but no German A1 or B1 types (Albatros, Aviatik, LVG, Pfalz all made them), no Taubes, Nieuport 10s Short Folders, Sopwith Babys, Bristol Scouts, Morane Parasols. I can't walk into a Model Shop without seeing an SE5 or DVII but pre-1916 types are rare. Rant over. I found a 1916 alternative (addition?) to the Nieuport 11 in the stash, a Blue Max Roland CII, I bet that one is a handful.

Right. First, keep in mind that the rules say your build doesn't HAVE to be 1914-15, that's just the focus. Having said that, Special Hobby do make a few possibilities in 1/48, including a Sopwith Tabloid and Schneider and at least one Nieuport 10.

Didn't know about those, and despite their failings I do have some respect for Special Hobby products. I know the campaign build doesn't have to match the year, but this was something I hoped to do anyway, originally I hoped to do two a year, but I don't think time will let me. So this is what I want to do, one type typical of each year in 1/48th scale, I am just grateful you have proposed a group build that got me off my butt and made me order a 1914-15 kit. Actually, I could almost do this in 2 seaters now, just need a 2 seater introduced in 1918, that should be do-able.
The BE2 was the best British 2 seater at the outbreak of the war and it wasn't the designers fault that the aircraft was kept in service long after it's sell-by date, it was the backbone of the RFC for too long. By 1917 it must have taken real guts to go up every day in an unmaneuverable, slow, poorly armed machine in daylight, to the wrong side of the lines and with a headwind for your return, against Albatri and Pfalz opposition. Yet they did it and got results! The DH4 and F2B must have come as a great relief.

I am in for this one. My knowledge of the WWI airwar is pretty basic, but I have some cool WWI aircraft in the stash - mostly Eduard kits.
A good excuse to do some training on rigging.

I've just won an Airfix Avro 504k on evilbay. Giving some thought to building it as one of the aircraft that took part in the raid on the Zeppilin works in November 1914. Not sure yet which version of the 504 was used in the raid or what would be needed to change the kit (if anything).

Well the Airfix Avro 504k arrived over the weekend and it doesn't look a bad kit, although the engine is crap. Looking at it and the earlier A, it would need a reworking of the forward fuselage and a new engine cowling. Not entirely sure how I would even start to convert it. So I'll be sticking with my original plan of the Russian Morane with the tail saw!
Besides, I quite like the inter-war trainer scheme on the 504k's decal sheet.

1/48 Roden BE2c arrived yesterday, Kit looks OK but not as good as the Strutter kit. Interior detail is a bit thin but the oily bits look good. Interestingly, I ordered it from the Roden website and the cost of the kit and postage came to less than the cost listed by Hannants, without postage. Delivery was about 10 days from Ukraine. Will be doing an early aircraft (May-June 1915) with no gun or bombs, might add a camera if I can find the pictures I have of one. Anyone know where I can get a 1/48 Lee Enfield rifle to place in the front cockpit? Time to start doing some research. This one is definitely NOT a first biplane, the rigging is very complicated and will probably be the major part of the build, lots of planning required before glueing anything together.

You could see if tamiya does any accesory sets from their 1/48 armour range. If they do it will most likely be late WW2 no.4 enfields but shouldn't be hard to convert to an SMLE.
