Thanks for the look behind the scenes. So originally the pure reflectivity of the finish was never the concern? I love the way we live and learn a little every day.

Sorry, missed this; been a little "otherwise engaged" lately.
The first perceived need for black was when Chrome was born; just as with mirrors, it was found that a glossy black was needed as a backing, and this has since been extended to cover other shades.
