FIGHTER/BOMBER CAMPAIGN:

PREAMBLE (straight from wikipedia)
A fighter-bomber is a fighter aircraft that is modified or used primarily as a light bomber in the tactical bombing and ground attack roles. It differs from attack aircraft primarily in its origins; attack aircraft are developed for the attack role first and any fighter capability is entirely secondary, whereas fighter-bombers are designed as fighters and then adapted to other roles.[1] This term, although still used, has less significance since the introduction of rockets and guided missiles into aerial warfare. Nowadays, aircraft that carry similar duties are typically called multirole fighters or, sometimes, strike fighters.

AS PER ANDREW EGAN:
Fighter Bombers are a compromise, really we are talking aircraft designed as fighters that can drop bombs, otherwise it is any aircraft with all its armament firing forward that can both drop bombs and dogfight, (however badly it does either).

RULES:
1. Aircraft must be a fighter; key word is designed as fighters some were exceptions as the Mossie.
2. Two man crew maximum.
3. No night fighters.
4. No bombers that were used as night fighters.
5. THE LIST below to make everything black or white and no grey.
6. No starting before the campaign and the model should be completed by the end of the campaign.
7. Build logs and lots of posting are encouraged. I’d encourage sharing why you selected this aircraft, any important or pertinent details are welcome. Good natured slagging is welcomed. Ill-tempered grousing about the aircraft choices will be ignored.
8. Stand alone or Dio's allowed.
9. Entries cannot be used for more than 1 campaign.
10. Work in Progress Pics must be posted in the Official Campaign thread...
11. At least 2 Clear Pictures of the finished model on a plain background must be posted in the Official Campaign Gallery to be awarded the Campaign Ribbon
12. All scales are welcome.
13. And last but not least enjoy yourself.

There are some very tempting aircraft on that list. I'm surprised at the F-102 though. I thought that one was a pure interceptor and wasn't cleared to carry things what go bang on the ground.

The Deuce spent some in Vietnam. Early on they did bomber escort and interdiction. Later they started doing ground attack work. For daylight work it used the rockets in the bay doors, at night they could use Falcons.

Now this is my type of campaign. Count me in. Read your list and there are a few dozen aircraft that already interests me. Not even going to pick my build till we get much closer to the start date as I'll be changing my mind over and over again.

Welcome Joel, I also am having trouble to decide on an a/c I keep looking at the F105, Dassault Ouragan, Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, and de Havilland Vampire. But as you stated weve still got time to settle on our builds, I bet that several of us me especially will end up with more a/c in the stash just have that one to build.

Mark, you never gave a hint as to what a/c was your pick?

Think that is crazy, the Canadian A/F decided to use the F-102 for ground attack.A rocket with wings locking onto a ground target.

Trevor,
unfortunately, yep.

I started the Grumman campaign last year, and it doesn't start till 7/15. Seems like a life time, but it will get here. Just more time to drool, and change your mind as what to build.

Rooting around in the stash I came across a P-47 Thunderbolt, F-8 Crusader, F-86 Sabre and a Mig-29. Which has left me scratching my head. But I'm still liking the Mossy

Wanted to wait before picking my weapon of choice, but I keep on hearing voices. So as of right now, I'm going with the new Academy 1/48 scale F4C Phantom. Weapon load will be Air to Ground. Of course this is subject to change many times.

Mark, I remember photos of that configeration in both the ETO & PTO. I wonder what those did to the flight characteristics?

Well, I'm sure it didn't make the takeoff distance noticeably longer. I suspect that it made turning a bit dicier.
