Gaspatch Models has been giving us a limited run of fine detail pieces until now. Now they have three 1:48 kits of the Salmson 2A2. They have generously given us a chance to look at their late production version. Lets have a look.

To answer a question. Yes, the plan view sheet glues down to a flat board like 1/4 inch ply. And the thick cardboard formers are punched free and glued on top of the plan view.

Hi Stephen

Is that jig a "first" in a mainstream kit? - it's a brilliant idea!

I've ordered one of these beauties, and e-mailed Pheon to pre-order at set of their upcoming 1:48 decals - together they're my New Year's treat to me.

All the best

While jig patterns have been provided by a few manufacturers over the years, this is the first WWI kit to provide the jig plan view and support blocks.

It is also interesting to note with Gaspatch's 3 kits of the Salmson 2A2 the stigma of the old 1:48 Merlin kit is easily forgotten. The Merlin kit was little more than a block of slush molded plastic. The 1:48 Gaspatch kit is light years ahead of the Merlin version.

Hi Stephen

I bought the old Merlin Albatros when it came out - that was "fun" too! I hasten to add, I had no involvement, despite my call-sign!

I must take this opportunity to give a plug for Gaspatch's delivery service. I ordered the kit yesterday (a Sunday) and received an e-mail today that it's been dispatched.

All the best

Hi again

For those that have missed it, new Aeroscale member, Evangelos Vassilopoulos, has a superb build of this kit underway in Pre-Flight Check. It looks like a sure-fire Front-Page Feature in the making.

All the best
