Frederick your lot is...

#59 Amazons and Andes! Build any aircraft belonging to a South American Airforce that IS NOT Argentina or Brazil!

Yowzah! That looks like a challenge.

Step one: Google.
Step Two: Consult my stash
Step three: Local hobby shop
Step four: (assuming I haven't found success by 2 or 3) eBay

Cheers,
Fred

Fred I'd recommend a look at Aztec models for your decals loads of exotic south American paint schemes. Just a warning, once you've looked you'll want more oh the site can be a bit hard to navigate, click the order button and that will take you to the complete list with most decal sheets being available in both 1/72 and 1/48 with a few also in 1/32.
I've ordered direct from them with no issues.

Stayed up late last night researching South American air forces. Based on what I found, what interests me, and kits in the stash that need to see some daylight I'm down to two options:

A Peruvian P-36A (redesignated P-36G IIRC) or a Chilean A-26 Invader (which has at least one really baller scheme though I have yet to see an actual photo so I'm suspicious that it might just be fanciful.)

Fred

A hush comes over the crowd. A masked figure enters stage right.

The Jar of Doom.

OK, then. The chance to build an Invader is hard to pass up. Chilean Air Force it is.

As an aside: The above kit has been in my stash for more than 20 years. I've always wondered if I would ever get around to building it. (the all black scheme just didn't inspire me, but a camo one...
... well, YEAH!)

Let's see how this goes, eh.

Spent last night getting acquainted with the Monogram kit and re-remembering all the reasons I would put it back on the shelf for the past 20 years. Demons exorcised, this bird is ready to be built! Parts removed from sprues, test fittings commenced and no fear in my heart!!!
;)

First a little stock taking and some key problems addressed right off the bat.
1. Kit was missing rear canopy (Monogram packed the box with _2_ windscreens). I now have 2 sets of vacuum formed canopies!

2. Kit is, uncharacteristically for Monogram, heavily covered in mold release oils. Parts are cleaned and I'm undeterred by the mold swirls throughout the kit.

3. Upon opening box I discovered that the leading edge of starboard wing had a half inch crack through it as well as numerous sink marks on the fuse. (Ambroid and Mr. Surfacer to the rescue!) Problem solved.

4. Raised panel lines. Like most folks I've avoided my older kits with raised panel lines out of a reflexive urge to dismiss them as inferior and intimidated by the thought of rescribing something this big, however...
... after re-reading the splendid "Reading the Seams" article on this site and studying dozens of A-26 photos, I am undaunted. Hoping to use an airbrush technique I've been practicing to exploit the raised panels to my advantage.

Oi!

Cracked wing? No problem. (taking extra pains to mask off around areas being sanded to protect raised panel lines as much as possible.)

Just gotta love vintage Monogram. Here's a little reminder that Mattel owned Monogram for quite a while. On the upside, the fit is surprisingly good and much of the kit is well engineered.

This bird is gonna fly!

Geronimo!!!

Nothing in the stash fits, so I'm going to have too go shopping, oohh how i hate shopping for kits .
Found a few air ambulance helos, but no firefighting aircraft.
I know I have seen one somewhere (Revell rings a bell for some reason), but cant find it yet.

If you wanna follow me down the rabbit hole of working on a vintage Monogram kit, Revell/Monogram has the A-26 kit re-issued as a fire fighting plane. Not only can it be had cheaply, there are plenty of after market bits _and_ there are tonnes of cool color schemes you get to do (with plenty of web documentation!)

Next up is seam filling (and lots of it) and to get the remaining cockpit bits installed.

Ehhhhh they're just painted in usaf greys...

It's totally acceptable given the criteria, but where's the pizzazz??

On an unrelated note, shame on me. I completely neglected to take a timestamp shot. Here's what I've accomplished so far.

I've mentioned it elsewhere but I will echo it here. What's the correct colouring for the wheel bays and interior surfaces of dive brakes??? Trumpeter has poor to pathetic colour indications on the instructions for these areas.

I'd venture to guess that they're the same colours as the underside. If there's no evidence to the contrary available then how's anyone going to prove you wrong?

Just a quick heads up for everyone, We just sold our house, and are just waiting for the legal documents before we can move into our new house, which could be anything from 4-6 weeks. I won't be doing any modelling for the forseeable, as all my kit is packed up ready to go, but I will still be around online, keeping an eye on everyones progress. Cheers!

We shall have to wait for our Mirage then. Congratulations on selling lee, this is a positive thing I trust?

Eugene! The black eagles falcon makes me very happy. It'll make the campaign gallery just that bit more interesting.

As for my builds, I can't bring myself to do the SEA camouflage on the delta, I just love the colourful us air force stuff too much. So now I have no reason to do an nvaf fishbed. I'm having a hard time deciding between the FAF, the Czechs and a Soviet example. Leaning towards the Finns...

Adam, you seem to have run out of work space on the bench! A pantleg will have to suffice.

My own kit is waiting for me at the local hobby shop, so I'll run over there at lunch and pick it up. Recall it's a Fiat CR42 kit with Swedish markings for "Neutral Colors".
Cheers!

In Aegean it was once called Eris, the Egyptians called it Apep, we just call it...

The Jar.

Jan, your lot is...

[i]#58 Oh Carp.[/b]Ohhhhohohohohoh Jan you got one of my stinkers. You must build any aircraft named for one of the following:

A fish.
A crustacean.
A marine mammal.

My first instinct would be to rummage through the Sopwith Zoo... Jumping to mind are the F20 Tigershark, Aerospatiale Dauphin, Martin Marlin and obviously Swordfish.

If you can find an aircraft named shrimp, crab or lobster I will doff my cap to you sir.

Oh and NATO reporting names are disallowed.

Hmmmmmm, a challenging theme. Barracuda and Walrus immediately come to mind, or how about going really obscure and doing anything by Saunders-Roe?

Edit (lunch hour well spent at work)

Fairey Albacore, Seal or Spearfish
TBM in RN service was the Tarpon
Does the Neptune count?
Sikorsky Seabat or Seahorse

DeHavilland Beaver, Otter, Dh 92 Dolphin. Sopwith Dolphin. Blackburn Shark. Perhaps even the Mig 21, if the 'Fishbed' is allowed.

Thanks man - positive? Most definitely! We've been here for 2 years, nice enough place, but we always would have preferred somewhere with a view unobscured by other houses -we're selfish that way I guess! Luckily, we have found our dream property, surrounded by wonderful views over farmland, and at the front, we can see the sea! The garden is south facing (very important to my better half), the kitchen is enormous, and there is a heated sun house at the bottom of the garden, just perfect for airbrushing in.

Oh yes, did I mention that there is a small bar in the garden too? Cheers everyone!

Thanks for all the suggestion guys!

Not much that smell fish in my stash and no lobsters at all...
I've found the following...

"O carp." Hmm, there is a colorful japanese carp that called Shusui and also MPM did a japanese Me 163 lookalike with the same name, Mitsubishi J8M1 Shusui.
A Sea Horse, actually the german H-34G from Revell. Might be a "See Pferd" then.
A big mammal, the Dornier Do JII Wal from Huma.
Some norwegian flying Penguins from Hasegawa but I guess they won't do.
