Hi Everyone.
As I have just finished one of Dragon's Zestorers basically OOB I thought I would build one of Trumpeter's ships to see how they compare.

OK, here is the beast in question and the only extra I will be using is an Artwox wooden deck.

Just for interests sake I put the Z-39 set (on the right) next to the Z-30 set and as you can see there are many differences.

First task is to build the four main turrets, well four turrets full stop. As you can see the detail is very nice, if a little heavy handed rivet wise. That doesn't worry me as I think it adds character to parts that could otherwise be very bland.

And here is the gun and its mount. It has the breech etc as the backs of the turrets are open if you really wanna have a look inside.

And here we have the first PE parts to be applied. Again the kit comes with two sheets of PE, one details and one of generic railings. First up I glued the liferaft to the side of the turret and then glued the PE to the raft and turret. Glueing the PE to the turret then trying to carefully slide the liferaft into the holder would have been a recipe for disaster.
Any way, that is it for now.
Until next time
Warren

Well that was short lived! The wooden deck for my Kongo turned up today so it back to the lovely Kongo until she is finished.
Cheers all

Hi Daniel.
A thousand pardons effendi but I knew not how long it was going to take for the wooden deck to get here for the Kongo.
Oh did I mention I also built a DKM Type VIIA U-Boat while waiting..
Cheers mate

It would appear so Mark.

I am actually selling a heap of stuff on Ebay at the moment as the stash has grown too big in the past few years. No ships, just planes so far.

Cheers mate

Greetings one and all.
@ Mark, I counted my completed ships and subs and got a total of 19 so far, most of them in the past 12 months. Should have a nice little fleet for a table at the Hobby Expo later in the year.. if I have the intestinal fortitude...
Now that the Kongo is finished work has recommenced on the Z-30.

As you can see the hull is painted. I will clear coat it to protect it as the hull always seems to gather a few scratches during a build.
I have also painted the various superstructure and the turrets in Gunze H308 Grey.
More progress later.. hopefully.
Cheers
Warren

Greetings from soggy Warner.
Hull has been Futured to try and protect it from the inevitable bumps and scrapes. Don't like to use masking tape as it seems to affect the paint sometimes.

As you can see the main decks are on. They were almost a snap fit the fit was so good and tight.

And the first piece of PE has been installed!! The kit comes with two frets of PE and they are called out during construction. One of the sheets is generic rails and I am sure I will be using it somewhere. I have heaps left over from the Bismarck still so we will see.
Cheers all

It is just the way I am I suppose. When one is not employed one must keep one's hands and mind occupied for the day when one may get a job..
Thanks mate
