Hi everybody, the work is cracking on apace ( too much time on my hands right now!). Engines and cockpit installed, and fuselage is together, with just the tiniest bit of filling and sanding required. I'm going to conduct a small straw poll here, as I can't make my mind up on two aspects of this build:

1) Overwing Tanks - on or off?

2) Missiles - Red Tops or Firestreaks?

Your progress on the lightning is coming along great and Im liking the job you did painting the pilot, any idea what scheme youre going for? Im not sure what to say about the missiles but Id leave the overwngs tanks off. Personally I like the look of loaded aircraft but the giant overwing tanks block the view of a great looking machine

I managed to make some headway on my D-9 this weekend getting the front office painted and ready for assembly. I confess to be a little proud of the instrument panel considereing its handpainted, it will be ashame to glue the canopy shut. At least I have the pics!

Im stll undecided which scheme Ill be going for just yet, every profile I have decals for is a winner in my book.

Nice progress on the fighters especially the detail paintings on the instrument panels. Below is a photo of Seminar's vintage 1/35th. UH1B Iroquois which were used in Vietnam war. I'll also be using Eduard's interior and armamnet sets (where applicable) to enhance the details. Will post the progress soon

I think you've answered your own question Lee - Red Tops and no overwing tanks! The tanks were rarely carried except on ferry flights (eg when 74 went to Singapore), or the last few years of the Lightnings service.

I've made some progress on my P-38. The NMF is Alclad. I used their clear base, which worked well. I keep knocking the couter weights off the tail (go figure).

I highly recommend this kit. For some unknow reason, I have a hard time getting Academy kit to come out the way I think they should, but this is a real gem of a kit. Fit is excellent. I know it has shape issues and I don't care, it looks like a P-38 to me.

Kurt, the metal finish looks fantastick. Nice job.

Got my fuselage on my 190 together and the seams cleaned up with some scribing needed to restore some panel lines. Got the RLM02 parts painted and have been fidgeting around with some kit improvements.

I decided to build Dortenmanns D-9 so I attempted some cosmetic revisions to the gun cowling to make it an early variant. I sanded the existing lower bulges off the cowl and fuselage, scribed (and not too well i might add) the extra lines for a 5 pcs cowl and am building up some new bumps with Micro kristal klear. I also added a second ejection chute for the cowl guns and hollowed out the exhaust stubs.

I gave thought to scratch building the wheel well detail but I dont think its worth the effort (and i stink at scratch building). The MDC resin set is around $20 plus shipping about the same price as an eduard D-9 weekend kit that has all that included. Im just going the build the kit as designed and just not show off the bottom too much

Man there is some good things going together here, i just can't get to my Judy until I finished, or at least nearly finished, another project. Hopefully I can start over the week end.

I have the Salamander pretty much assembled and ready to undercoat. This kit goes together really easily with good parts fit. I don’t particularly like the aircraft but the kit is nice.

Great progress everyone. I've stepped in as deputy as Sam has been taken ill again and will be taking a week or two off from here and modelling in general while she gets better.

John, nice to know the Salamander went together well and nice work on the cockpit. I have one in my stash and its given me some inspiration to dig it out.

Looks to be a fairly easy build. The kit has some nice detail and even has a proper navigators cockpit, unlike Airfix's effort. I mean even Matchbox got that one right! Also seen in the pic are the very nice decals for two Canberra's of 39 Sqn during Operation Telic, and a pair of BOZ pods and pylons from the Airfix kit kindly donated by fellow Aeroscaler Spaarndammer.

Here is a little update. Cockpit is done and attached to the upper fuselage.....I dry fit the upper and lower fuselage and it looks like the grand canyon between the two halfs just below and aft of the cockpit....you can see it in this photo just below the RIO's seat

While i do the finishing touches on Airfix splendid AVG-Hawk, I'm trying to decide what to build for the campaign. Right now I'm trying to choose between the Airfix Spit Mk22 and the Plastyk RWD-5. Might go with the latter, as a break from the usual wartime shooty-type planes.
