Rowan: It's hard when real life intrudes into our sanctum. The funny thing is that sometimes it makes it difficult for us to do the thing that actually makes us feel better. One assembly step at a time, my friend.

Meanwhile, due to Rowan's interference in my plans, I will now be building an F-16A instead of the F-15. I'll be using my build here to have a look at the new J's Works Israeli F-16 paint masks. My plan is to do this aircraft:

The highest scoring Israeli F-16 (and probably highest scoring of any F-16) this one was one of Israel's first F-16s and also participated in the raid on Iraq's nuclear plant in 1981. How can I pass that up?

I'll be using a 1/48 Hasegawa kit with a small IsraCast upgrade and possibly a new seat if I can find one in my stash. And, of course, IsraDecal decals.

Hi Justin and Michael

Many thanks for your kind thoughts and encouragement. As I said to Steffen the other day, it seems rather ironic that possibly Aeroscale's most notorious "start every other kit in sight, but finish almost none of them" modeller should find himself unable to make a start on anything, but that's been the case for the last couple of months.

Anyway, hopefully the jinx is lifted - I sprayed some paint at the Lippisch... (OK - I need to clean a lot of it off and start again, I'm that out of practice - but that's another story! LOL!).

All the best

Hi Michael

I didn't mean to mess up your plans - but it's all in a good cause!

I'm really looking forward to seeing you tackle the masks. I've never tried applying pre-cut masks across an entire airframe, so I'm very interested to see how it goes.

All the best

My Mirage is 99.9% finished, just have small glue spill on the canopy to fix & I'll post some photos in the campaign gallery. I like this kit heaps, was really impressed with the decals.

Great work on the Mirage Shorty, very clean !

Hey Bjorn, long time no see mate ! Where have you been hiding?

I'm getting close to finished with my Academy Mirage as well, markings on now . . . .

This build almost qualifies as a "What-If" because it's the wrong variant for an RAAF Mirage, but the kit was cheap and the decals free, and I'm having fun !

Cheers, D

Hi fellow modellers!

After a longer absence (mainly due to the job... ) here in the forum it is time to make my humble contribution to this cool campaign.

I am in with the Revell re-issue of Hasegawa´s Saab Draken in 1:72. I think the double delta design qualifies for this campaign... onne delta is not enough!

The Draken and Swedish Airforce really hit me... meanwhile I have also bought Hasegawa´s 1:48 Draken. Profile backup is done by the very nice Warpaint issue about the Draken and the very recommendable book "Flygvapnet" from Nordic Airpower (http://www.nordicairpower.com/).

The kit:

I started this kit already end of February...

The usual beginning: cockpit assembly:

Overall fit ia really good so I have put the whole airframe together rather quickly:

Almost ready for painting. I plan to paint it in the two tone grey finish which was used by the Draken from the late 80´s until retirement. There is a nice YouTube clip which shows some of them: Swedish Stridsflyg SAAB Draken

@ John: your Mirage is really nice! I have the same in my stash. I will use your build blog as reference.

@ Damian: Another excellent built Mirage! Chapeau!

@ Andy: please tell me the trick of this shake-the-box-and-the-model-falls-out .

More of my Draken later.

Regards,

Sebastian

Everything on this thread looks great! Would love to break out a jet. Why not? I have a mental block of some kind!
Anyway, good job one and all! Russell

Hi!

I started the paint job.
The air intakes have been painted in black, the Draken belly and the leading edges of the outer wings and the side rudder in silver.

Then the underside in Revell Aqua Color 46:

@ Siderius: Go on, start a jet! I think I know the reason for your mental block: too many kits started?

Best regards,

Hi all
A bit more paint on and I start the decals later

The black anti dazzel looks if the edge is feathered but its not, just a trick of the light

@ Andy: Nice BMF paintjob!

Some update: I started masking the Draken for the upperside colors (Revell Aqua Color 57). I rely on UHU Patafix for masking:

The preliminary result:

Next step will be a washing combined with some color shading. I will post the results of course .

The Draken is always such a pretty airplane. Is the Revell kit a rebox of the Hasegawa?

Jessie is right, the Draken is a good looking bird indeed. It is one of the first jets my dad taught me when I was little back in the '70's. Russell

@ Jessy: I agree. The Draken design is very special. I like it very much. And I absolutely admire the guys at SAAB who were able to develop such a progressive airframe in the late 50s/early 60s which made the Draken to the best fighters in the world then.

But all Swedish things look cool anyway. The best thing is when they put their unique splinter camo on it .

BTW: yes, this kit is a reboxing of the Hasegawa kit in 1:72. At the moment those kits are cheaply available here in Germany. I am thinking about an Austrian Draken...

Andy, according to the Warpaint Draken profile there was only one Saab J 35 B which had the splinter pattern. It was used for evaluation of the new Viggen standard camo. I have to check whether there is a conversion set available at Rebell Hobby which makes a J 35 J into a "B".

But be warned: the stuff from Rebell is highly addictive! Maybe you already know them...

For the moment two tone grey is my choice... I am applying the decals at the moment . My favorite stage of modelling!

Regards,

Sebastian
