My two favourite post WW2 aircraft are the Mirage III and the MiG 21, so i was waiting for this one. So much so that i decided to take avantage of the pre-order option with the purchase of the extra set of parts- effectively makes it into a special "Dual Combo" kit with some added bonuses.

Hi all,

A big thank you to Rowan for having made the review live so quickly. According to the Eduard Facebook page it is the first review of the kit... worldwide! Uuhh...

If you are interested to do the East Germany machine (like me), a French colleague has posted some pictures on the Thionville Model Club's homepage. It is the exact same machine featured in the kit as option F, which is currently on display at the Deutsches Museum in Oberschleissheim near Munich...

For more pictures, see here: Maquette Club Thionvillois

I'm happy to see that, unless what Steffen Arndt told me , the aircraft isn't as clean as it is supposed to be...

I've got some of that aircraft as well, from when i was there 2 years ago. Looks like they've changed the layout a little bit. Great museum, in a very nice area.

Great review, I will definitely be getting this. I missed out on the pre order special edition but to be honest all you got was a resin seat and some extra decals so its no biggie.

One warning though, you will need some aftermarket stencil decals if you plan to make a Soviet Russian Jet. The Cyrillic provided in the kit decal stencils is complete gibberish I'm afraid.

As for that green, man I had a real nightmare trying to match the shade of green blue Eduard used on their Mi-24 interior panels. Closest I could find was Citadel Colour Hawk Turquoise, and even that was slightly off. I couldnt find anything in Tamiya or Vallejo.

Begemot makes a stencil decal sheet for the MiG-21, covering almost all variants as well as markings for associated armament and their launch rails & pylons.

Talking of the interior color, Eduard linked to this blog on their Facebook page: http://studiogekko.blogspot.com/2011/04/eduard-mig-21-cockpit-colour.html
That's 50/50 mix of Gunze H25 Sky Blue and H46 Emerald Green.
I've bought some Lifecolor and Vallejo acrylics for experimenting. Nothing groundbreaking yet. I'll report back if I hit a mixture that comes close.

The same trick was done in the new issue of military illustrated modeller by Brett Green. He used Tamiya Sky Blue and Gunze Emerald Green to the same effect.

Thank you so much for a very nice review and the firm Edward marvelous model. I hope to soon begin construction of the model. It's great memories. 10 years I worked as a mechanic on the MiG-21 all versions.

Hi Miloslav,

I'm glad you liked the review. The MiG-21 is probably Eduard's best kit.

The Gunze H46 + H25 mix works indeed very well...

The kit needs very little filler, almost none if you are carefull (not like me... )

I'm almost done with the painting and I hope to finish the model on saturday.

Hi Jean-Luc

Beautiful work, as always!

I see what Steffen means about the control column, though - it does look back to front. Frighteningly close to the instrument panel too - beware bruised knuckles if you try to dive that plane, assuming the position is correct!

All the best

That's the plan but it won't be easy! That's what I did today. Still some work to do...

Looks great, Jean-Luc.

I also went out and got three limited edition kits. I have not build the kit yet, but I agree to the comments in the review. State of the art engineering.

Thanks for sharing the pictures of the East German machine.

Looking forward to see your final result.

Oh come on, how can it be that fast!
It's a really great model, and I bet that it still smells fresh color and varnish

Cheers Nick

That looks great Jean-Luc, and it has turned out ten times better then my effort (which is not surprising really).
And I have to agree with Jean-Luc it is a very well engineered and thought out kit.
Anyhoo, here is mine, in the Egyptian marking scheme.

Hi Andy,

Nice one!

You shouldn't be too hard to yourself. Your model looks very good. You should get it on the front page as soon as possible...

Excellent looking Migs guys. Andy and Jean-Luc you have to put your Migs in the features. The Egyptian finish looks superb Andy.
All the best.
