Got a question for you Nige. The Tamiya 1/48 scale T-bolt gives you a few options when it comes to magnetos. Any idea which would be best for a P-47 D-22-RE? Not that anyone will be able to see it once completed.

FIrstly, a photo of the man himself.

Eagleston flew with the 354th FG and scored 18.5 kills, making him the 9th Air Forces top scorer.

When the Confederate Air Force aquired 6 P47's from the Peruvian Air Force in the late 1960's, one of them was painted in Eaglestons colours. It didnt have the eagle painted on the port fusalage side though, which makes it easy to distinguish from the real thing.
I thought Id got more photos of FT-L and if I come across them I'll post them on here.

Ive got dozens of photos of what you need to see. Its probably easier, with Hinckley only being a day away, for me to bring down a couple of reference books and you choose which photos you need and then I'll post the pics on here

Nige have you got any pictures of the Thunderbolt engine? Or have they already been posted? I have started my 1/32 model for the Aces high campaign and I need some references. While we're on the subject do you have anything showing the brake lines on the undercarriage, Oh, nearly forgot set belts too, as I'm gonna have to scratch build them

I could also do with some close ups of how the mid fuselage supercharger doors operate so that I can complete the mask set

As Gary stated, the thread is very limited in how it is organized. Not that there is much that can be done about it. I think it is still a useful and fun thread to read. Let's keep a good thing going. If anybody out there is building a P-47 let's hear about it. I can't show any pics of mine as I am temporarily without a camera at the moment.

For me it works pretty well as it is.

Someone asks a question, you answer usually with some nice piccies and the info bank gets added to.

The problem is that sometimes it can be a chore wading through lots of pages to find what you want and thats not going to improve. What you need is your own separate website like this Spitfire one.

Heres one I had stored on the laptop already, and one of my favourites of Kokomo.
Enough to get the ball rolling anyway

Note how the outer machine guns on each wing have been removed and the ports covered.

Hi Peter.
Im home in a couple of days so I'll scan and post a couple of pics of Kokomo for you.
For cockpit colours,personally I use Humbrol 117, however a 2:1 mix of Tamiya XF5 and XF3 with perhaps a drop or two of black is pretty close. Washes etc will darken this as well.
You'll need to remove one of the 50 cals each side if memory serves me correctly. I think this is noted in the kit instructions.

Hi !

I did plan to go with the Kokomo option, love to see some pictures on the real aircraft with thoose markings

I did try to start on the cockpit today, disaster struck, my airbrush wouldn´t work.
The needle and the nozzle broke...DOH !
I probably get the new parts this week.

Another thing, Tamiya says that the cockpit color is XF-5, but that color just don´t seems to match
with the photos i looked at.
I rather go with Tamiya acrylics, maybe i can mix something up...who knows:)
Any ideas ?

Theres nothing wrong with the kit markings
I built a 1:72 version of Kokomo a couple of years ago.

The 78th FG Checkerboard cowling option is really nice too.
If you decide to go with the Kokomo option let me know, it'll give me an excuse to post some photos of the real aircraft in the SIG.

Doesnt time fly?
Almost before you know it the SIG is over 6 months old and at the time I write this has over 200 posts and is nudging 5500 views!
Time to take stock and ask for some feedback from you all.

How would you like to see the SIG progress in the future?
What would you like to see more of in the thread?
Is there anything you would like to see less of?
Would you like this become an IPMS SIG or stay solely an Aeroscale one?

Any thoughts, either publically or via PM would be appreciated.

Post # 200 for the SIG
I was at RAF Cosford today with the Bulldogs stand. A great show and we all had a good time talking to modellers and public alike.
I had a very interesting chat with a gentleman about P47's and Samuel Stamps aircraft in particular. Im sorry, I didnt catch the gentlemans name, but I hope you find your way to the SIG.
Heres the information Ive been able to find out and the photos I promised to scan for you.
Firstly,,the man himself. Samuel O Stamps 63FS 56FG.

The Little Friends website lists 3 P47s as being allocated to Stamps.
All coded UN-S
42-22762 Tinkle. Later allocated to 366FG 9thAF
42-75683 Later allocated to 352FS 353 FG
43-25307 Tinkle ( pin up girl artwork as depicted on the model I had on the stand today)

Remember we spoke about the "baby" artwork? This used to be listed on the Littlefriends website as being artwork for 43-25307 before the Vargas pinup was added. The P47 being called "Sneaky McGee". This photo from one of my reference books is captioned as "Sam Stamps 43-25307 Tinkle"

This aircraft is now listed on Littlefriends as being 42-76250 coded LM-S bar, allocated to Lt Wendell McClure of the 62nd FS.
Maybe that new research has come to light recently.
