Special Hobby have released a neat 1/48 scale kit of the Fiat G.55 Sottoserie 0 - a great subject for experienced modellers looking for an unusual fighter and including among the decal options one of the most spectacular camouflage schemes of WW2.

Very nice review Rowan.
It looks like it'll take a bit of work to get together but the detail looks very good.
As for that spectacular camo scheme,,,not a problem.
Im pretty tempted to order one and break out the Tamiya masking tape!

A bit of inspiration...



And, no, I haven't suddenly mastered the art of building kits quickly! It's actually the Classic Airframes kit of the later G.55 version with wing cannons - and it's sat unfinished on my Shelf Of Shame for years. Having scraped the dust off it for this pic, I suppose I should see about finishing it one day... if I can remember where the rest of the parts are. According to the refs I've got since I painted it, the brown I used for the camo is really a bit too dark and too red.

Ive just read (while looking on Ebay,,LOL) that the Special Hobby kit is a lot better than the old Classic Airframes one. I hope the decal issue on your sample is just a one off!
Your G-55 is so close to completion. What stalled this build?

It's so long ago, I can't remember - but, knowing me, I just got distracted by a new kit... which I bet got left half-finished in turn (if I ever started it...)!

Very cool camouflage scheme - both the one Rowan has lying on a shelf somewhere and the one in the instructions.

Very attractive and tempting to try out. However, it does not beat the sand/green "cloud" pattern.
