Hola!

I got this kit for $15 bucks at a show this weekend and I'm wondering how good it is? Whats the weakpoints? Good points? How accurate is it? What aftermarket sets 'need' to be used. The markings has a captured German version which I will probably do, does anyone have reference of this? Thanks in advance!!

Decent kit, great deal you got there. Eduard makes a superb barrel for it, but I am not saying that the barrel needs to be replaced. Eduard also does a PE set if you are so inclined.

Typical DML Sherman, they all build alike.

Anders;

Go here: http://mmcalc.tripod.com/Shermans/Model_FAQ/Modeling_the_M4A4-Firefly.html

You'll find out exactly what's wrong and what's not wrong with the kit.

A real bargain! You will see that a few mods that you can find on the prev post you can get a good model.

You're lucky to get that kit, Anders, let alone at such a great price. I have one and wanted another, but it seems impossible for me to order one in. The kit is a good one, with the correct suspension, but a slightly long lower hull (all this is in that link Paul gave you, actually). I modified mine to make a 75mm-barrelled M4A4, so I can't speak for the gun or the decals. You've probably noticed that DML supplies a small fret of PE with the kit and, in my opinion, it's really all you need, but if you want to dress it up more go for the Eduard set. The tracks can be made workable and, indeed, this is probably the easiest way to assemble them. Simply glue the end connectors to one link while allowing the other link to swivel. Of course, injection pin marks on the tracks are a real nuisance (naturally, they are on the side that is actually visible). I'd just cover tham with mud or something.

Hi Anders

There are two Firefly Vc kits.
6121 is the new version, with lots of corrected parts from the original release.
It comes with TONS of spare parts, the correct horizontal return roller arms for a Firefly, the turret shape was adjusted, but the hull is still too long. It's easy to fix according to those that have done so.

Every time I look in the box I start to drool!!!!!!!

The older kit is OK, but the running gear with upswept return rollers are not shown in any photos of Fireflies (how's that for hedging one's bets!!). The number of Italeri parts is much reduced in the 6121 release.

Cheers
Andy

Hola Guys!

Thanks for the great responses, and great link Paul! The kit I have is the 6031, so I suppose it is the older one. A friend bought the newer kit for the same money though, he bought two so I just bought one from him and ended up with the older one. Thanks again, I'll probably just build it out of the box as Im not an armor guy and don't want to spend a fortune on it, although the filling of all the mold marks on the tracks is rough duty.

Itīs a very good kit with a good fit and very fine details. Iīve built one and Iīm very pleased with it.
You can make some minor corrections if you want to improve it, for example an aftermarket barrel and a pair of tracks. The tracks of the kit are not bad, they are well detailed and look good, but itīs a nightmere to build them, I spent a pair of weeks in the tracks asemble.

Paul,

Thansk for your link to the information and pictures to fix the problems of the older Firefly kit. I have the older kit but didn't lnow about those problems. The repairs seem pretty easy.

Hi Dave and everyone else;

Glad you are pleased with Mike's site.

I've built the kit with all the fixes described and if you do I think you will all be very pleased with the results.

I can't beat Sabot, but I got in on a Bruce Beamish special oh so many years ago, two of 6121 for the price of $25. Sorry, but I sold off the other one long ago to a gentleman in Ireland.

OK, I confess...I bought two raffle tickets that day but only one won a prize. So I guess it cost me $2.

I got mine from a fellow modeller online for $18.00. It is the 6121 kit. I haven't started it yet but it looks nice.
