PlusModel offers modelers simple accessories as part of their EasyLine of diorama products. Made to be as simple as possible, the name aptly represents the product. The subject of this review is the German antitank mine, specifically the Tellermine 42.
The Tellermine was a simple, pressure activated antitank mine with a 5.5kg TNT charge. It was set to activate at a pressure above 300kg so as to be activated specifically by a heavy vehicle such as an armored car or tank. It had a small pressure plate and dual fuse system to prevent detonation from nearby explosion and deactivation by mine clearing crews. It was small and highly portable.
This set is packaged in a clear plastic sleeve with heavy cardstock insert. Eight small resin mines attached to a small pour block, one small decal sheet with markings for each of the mines, and a small black and white photocopy showing the completed mines make up the set.
Each of the mines is attached at one end to the pour block, which must be carefully removed to preserve the small lip that runs around the base plate of the mine. It is very easy to destroy the rim with even a single swipe of a filing stick or knife (I managed to do it to four of them). My samples also contained some residue along the top. I don't know if it was supposed to represent some sort of string, but the completed photos don't show it.
Following the careful clean-up, the mines are painted (I used PollyScale panzer yellow, which has a much browner appearance than other versions of this color) and the decals were then applied. From photos online, it did not appear to matter how the lettering was placed on the top of the mine. Lettering size, type of wording and paint color-black or white-seem to vary considerably. I did have one decal fold up while I was trying to place it. They are fairly thin with little excess carrier film, but set well with a little microsol.
With the decal in place the parts are complete. It can't get much simpler than that. You can weather the mines, chip or scratch them up, do as you with in your diorama. They are ready to go.
Highs: Simple set that can be completed quickly. Lows: Baseplate lip is easily damaged. Odd residue to clean up on each of the mine surfaces. Verdict: This set is about as easy to use as it gets, and is another nice addition from PlusModel.

I got back into the hobby a few years back, and wanted to find ways to improve, which is how I found this site. Since joining Armorama I have improved tremendously by learning from others here, and have actually finished a couple of kits. I model to relax and have fun, but always look to improve. ...
