Introduction

Polish company Basicks, among many battle bases, minatures and parts for miniatures conversions offer product line called Battlefield Resin Terrain. This product line includes miscellaneous product useful in easy adding high quality details to your vignettes or wargaming battlefield.
Three of these products are infantry trenches, also available together as one set: Infantry Trench Set (3). You can buy them separately or as a set (which is cheaper if you want to buy all three).

THE Trenches

The set contains three infantry trenches – semicircular fortifications made mainly of sandbags and additional obstacles helping protect soldiers hiding behind them.
Trench A is 110x32x26mm big. Like all other it is made of sand bags. It has a barrel partially buried in front of it and steel support made of steel profile and corrugated sheet.
Trench B is 115x36x23mm big. Some corrugated steel sheet is visible on the ground in front of the fortification. Backside is strengthen whit wooden planks, metal profiles and metal tube dug into the ground. There is a barrel on one side and a wooden box on the other side.
Trench C is 132x38x33mm big – it is the biggest one. It actually combines all features mentioned above. There is a barrel on a front (as a foundation) and on the one side of fortification. We have some metal stuck in the ground in front, and a round shell on the back. There is a wooden box on the side and few planks and steel profiles supporting the sandboxes from the back.
All these details are partially covered with soil which creates also base of the fortifications. Some of the sandbags have holes made by projectiles.
There are no parts directly binding the fortifications with one certain era. They can be easily used as elements of vignettes showing events from 20th century to fictional future.

the kits

Each fortification comes as one piece kit so no assembly is required. Scale of the kits is not defined by vendor but I believe that 1:35 scale is the closest match. One can obviously use these kits with bigger or smaller figures but there is a risk of visible scale difference in extreme cases.
No painting instruction is attached, but since you can use the kits with figures from any time period you want (from range mentioned above) and taking under consideration that there are basically only bags and barrels no instruction is necessary. Pictures of painted sets are available on vendor’s website and they make nice painting reference.

Details and quality

Bases are made of grey resin. They are of good quality without burrs, flesh, bubbles or cracks. Only minimum cleaning may be necessary mostly close to the base of each kit. Textures of bags, soil, metal barrels or wooden boxes are nicely represented. Although some areas of bags’ surfaces have much stronger texture than the other it doesn’t have negative effect on overall appearance.

Conclusion

If you need this kind of fortification and have figure that matches the size these infantry trenches are very good products to buy. They sure have much better look than structures one could build in example of plastic sandbags kits.
Since they are quite sturdy they seem to be great product for wargamers. They are easy to carry and place anywhere on the tabletop battlefield. They sure seem to be a little out of scale next to typical wargaming figures but in case of wargaming functionality is almost as important as visual aspects and in case of these sets both these factors are very strong.

My first contact with model making took place over 20 years ago – I’ve made few models of planes when I was 9. They were all destroyed in one disastrous accident. Pain after loosing results of my own work was so big that I’ve left model making for about 15 years ;) . I’ve returned to building models...
