Resin Cockpit Detailing Set for the Roden Kit

by: Tim Hatton [ LITESPEED ]

Pavla Models has released a detailed resin cockpit set for the Roden 1/48 T-28B Trojan trainer. Parts include two seats that have excellent cast harnesses on them.

Contents:

All the resin parts are contained in a vac formed blister packaging. Inside there is:

-1 x one piece cockpit tub.
-2 x seats.
-2 x instrument panels.
-2 x instrument hoods.
-2 x control sticks.
-4 x rudder pedals.
Numerous levers.

The one piece tub is quite a weighty item, but the detail is pretty good. Some highlighting of the raised knobs and switches and the recessed rivet detail will pay dividends. The casting block is very thin and may not need removing. The instrument panels have the instrument faces cast onto them, so some careful painting will bring out the detail. The control sticks are nicely shaped although the one broken stick is a pain, but easily fixed. But the levers that have detached from their casting block are a real disappointment. Some of them are safely contained in the packaging and others are lost. The seats look excellent particularly the harnesses. There are undercuts around the harness creating the effect that they are draped on the seats. Part of the harness extends down the back of the seat.
The instructions are illustrated with detailed black line drawings with English and Czech written instructions. There is some very fine draughtsmanship evident leaving you in no doubt what goes where. There are lots of helpful colour references for the instruments and seats. Some minor surgery is required to the kit to enable the fitting of the resin parts. The forward instrument panel hood and the small wall behind the instructors seat needs removing.
The seats are available separately and are well worth considering as they do look very good.
Ref no: S48043.

Conclusions:

This is a very good release from Pavla Models. The cockpit tub and seats offers significantly more detail than the kit parts.A shame about the damaged and missing parts.
SUMMARY
Highs: Some good detail on show, particularly the seats.
Lows: The broken missing parts mainly caused by the loose nature of the contents inside the packaging.
Verdict: This release will certainly add extra interest to the Trojans office space. If nothing else acquire the seats.
